Introduction
Of all the questions that I have been asked over almost 40 years, the most frequent and passionate inquiry has always been about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
The greatest fear has been by those that were panicked that they had accidentally committed this unforgivable sin.
In the following you will see that it cannot accidentally be done.
And more to the point, since it is a sin that is done it in complete cognizance, it is done by an individual that has made up their mind in such a way, that they are not concerned that they violated this particular offense.
Many times I’ve told people, if you’re concerned that you’ve done it; this provides evidence that you have not. This is a sin that is done in complete awareness of what they are doing, as seen in the actions of the Pharisees which provided the only example that God provides in His Word.
What people forget is that Paul committed blasphemy against God, but he says he was forgiven because he did it in ignorance. Not that he accidentally did it without meaning to; he meant to accuse the Christians of heresy, for following a false God.
He not only did this, but he was the one that persecuted the Christians by death for their belief. So it is not that he accidentally blasphemed the Holy Spirit when he accused Jesus of functioning as an emissary of the devil (who do you see a similarity between this and the Pharisees, but what is the difference), and killed his followers. Paul did it unknowing because he was not aware that he was accusing the true God of the universe, the Holy Spirit Himself of this.
To commit blasphemy of the spirit you must knowingly accuse someone who you completely comprehend is functioning for the Holy Spirit, of doing evil and doing it in the power of the devil; such as the Pharisees. And you have to do it for your own personal gain, as they did.
They called him master, and stated that he had to be a man of God because of his teaching (Luke 20:21), and when one of His miracles went against one of their rules, they accused Him of doing it in the name of Beelzebub, when they knew it was a lie. They slandered the Holy Spirit on purpose because it affected their position in the community.
Matthew 12:30-35, says:
“He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
Starting with Matthew 12:10, we see that the Pharisee’s plan to entrap Jesus. Jesus “went into their (notice the emphasis that the Holy Spirit places on identifying the synagogue as “their synagogue,” as opposed to “God’s synagogue,” or even simply “the synagogue” ~ Matt. 12:9) synagogue” on the Sabbath, and having a man with a withered hand presented to Him (“…behold…” & “…And they asked him…” – the Greek grammar is more precise how the Pharisee set the situation up), the Pharisees asked Jesus if it was legal to heal on the Sabbath.
Jesus answered them, and then healed the man, and later a man possessed by a demon was brought to Jesus who was blind and dumb. Jesus also healed him and in response to this situation, as seen in verse 23, the people said, “is this the ‘Son of David’?”, which is a Messianic title.
When the Pharisees heard the people asking if Jesus was the Messiah, they retorted that Jesus cast out a devil by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of the devils.
Jesus, Not the Pacifist Wimp Many Claim
Jesus responded to their accusations, as well as their thoughts, stating that a house divided falls, and then used an illustration that it is God who is more powerful than Satan, and therefore has empowered Jesus to do this miracle.
Next we have verse 30, where Jesus says that He that is not for me, is against me (notice that there are only two positions, and no mention of going back and forth between them – consider this in reviewing the bold paragraph below regarding verses 34 and 35). And it is in response to the accusation that He is empowered by the devil, that Jesus goes on to respond to them in verse 31. And Jesus states:
“All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”
Jesus states that everything is forgivable except for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, which is exactly what these Pharisees had just done.
First, we must define what blasphemy is, according to Elwell’s Evangelical Dictionary of Theology:

Text: In general the word means simply slander or insult and includes any action (e.g., a gesture) as well as any word that devalues another person or being, living or dead. This general secular idea was made more specific in religious contexts, where blasphemy means to insult, mock, or doubt the power of God.1
There must be a deliberate and calculated determination to slander, it cannot be accidental, but must be a premeditated insult of the Holy Spirit.
Also in defining what blasphemy is, according to he renowned Biblical scholar Dr. William Smith as presented in his Smith’s Bible Dictionary , States:
“The Unforgivable Sin”
The blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, Matthew 12:32; Mark 3:28, consisted in attributing to the power of Satan, those unquestionable miracles which Jesus performed by “the finger of God,” and the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is plainly such a state of wilful, determined opposition to God and the Holy Spirit, that no efforts will avail to lead to repentance. Among the Jews, it was a sin against God, answering to treason, in our times.
Therefore, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is to speak evil of, or slander the Holy Spirit with the deliberate intent of doing so, this cannot be accidentally committed; it must be a conscious and calculated determination to slander with full intent God, wherein repentance is not even a consideration to the perpetrator.
Blasphemy without Intent
An example of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit WITHOUT intent can be seen in the actions of Paul who unintentionally did so according to 1 Timothy 1:12-13, which states:
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”
Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot be a mere slip of the tongue, but must be a deliberate and thought-out accusation against the Holy Spirit (this answers the question of those that fear that they can accidentally commit this most grievous sin of all sins), by knowingly attributing to the power of the Holy Spirit as having come from Satan, not God; knowing that this is a lie.
Power Exhibited
One other point that must be understood is that the blasphemy must be against the Holy Spirit, as opposed to God the Father, or Jesus Christ the Son; apparently both of these forms of slander are forgivable; but why.
The answer is that the Holy Spirit is the power of God that functions upon the earth; He isn’t some kind of superstitious or mystical function, the Holy Spirit is God’s power exhibit here – in the scene world.
When God moves supernaturally upon the face of the earth, He does so through the orchestration of the Holy Spirit.
Even when Christ was incarnate on the Earth, He did not function within His own power as deity, He did so when the power of the Holy Spirit came upon Him from upon high.
This is why He did no miracles until after He was baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is why He said He could do nothing in Himself, and that He truly became a man (Phil. 2:7-8), concerning his attributes, yet he always maintained is deity in his essence (the incarnation is a mystery, yet we know that Jesus was fully God, and fully man. He displayed the human attributes of limitation, voluntarily while maintaining the essence of deity, which can never be stripped from Him. Therefore, to slander the Holy Spirit is to slander the display of God’s power – When the Holy Spirit moves it is a visual exhibit of God, and to slander Him is to slander God fully knowing you are slandering the true God of the universe, the real God, without acceptation.
You’re NOT slandering some idea of god, some religious system, some MAYBE something – you are knowingly slandering the real deal because you see the miracle, the wonders, the power, and known the source is real – is God.
Personal Note: As stated above I have been approached by many people on this subject, those that had been fearful that they had accidentally blasphemed the Holy Spirit, which according to the above example cannot be accidentally done.
We must take the Scripture at face value without presumptions, and if the only example we have of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when the Pharisees attributed a miracle of God done through Jesus, and state that He’s doing it in the power of the devil, knowing it is a lie (Remember Paul, he accused Believers of working for Satan, of doing what they did in Satan’s power; He did not know it was God that was behind their actions – he did it in ignorance), we cannot extend it beyond that.
I hold a singular view (That I did not learn from another, but have found one credible scholar who holds the same view concerning this understanding of “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit,” Dr. Ron Rhodes, whose comments I will present below) concerning blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, it is:
I believe that the only way to commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (which only has one example in Scripture); is to knowingly and falsely accuse Jesus Christ, during His “First Coming” of committing a miracle in the power of Satan, and do it for personal gain (the Pharisees did this because of the jeopardy of losing their position and holding with the people – they did it for personal gain, not because they actually believed that Jesus was of Satan, otherwise it would not have been slander – it would’ve been an accusation, and could have been said in ignorance – which is what Paul did prior to his conversion, and was forgiven. We must not forget Paul’s example – you have to know that you are slandering the work of the Holy Spirit, if you truly do believe that a miracle could be an act of Satan, you have not slandered the Holy Spirit – Paul truly did believe that the Christians were following a false god, which would a demon or Satan himself), rather than the power of God in the Holy Spirit; when it is Biblically obvious according to the prophecies concerning Jesus being the Messiah, as well as clearly opposed to the Biblical teaching that God is more powerful than Satan.
I view this Scripture the same as Hebrews 6:4-6 (Please see “Limited Partnership” at: LINK), in that it could only be fulfilled during a certain time in history, and under certain conditions; which are now past and not possible. Otherwise, if to truly commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit means that you knowingly understand that an individual is doing a miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit, and then knowingly accuse them of what you know is a lie.
How would you know this unless the individual is fully accredited of God as being a person that only acts for God, and never for the flesh or the devil?
The only one qualified person to fit this description is Jesus Christ Himself. If a faith healer claims to be a representative of God, and does healings, how do I know that he is really working for God, in the power of the Holy Spirit, I do not.
And, it is in knowing that what you are saying is actually a lie that makes it blasphemy, you must slander the Holy Spirit, which means that you must positively know that the human doing the miracle in the name of the Holy Spirit, is truly His representative.
I would never give any human being this type of credit. I believe in healings, I’ve been healed, and I’ve seen healings. But no man receives carte blanche acceptance that what he is doing at any individual time, is an authorization that he is the Holy Spirit’s representative (how do you think that the False Prophet will present himself if not as a messenger of God – his deception is not in the miracles, but him who he really is, and who is his master).
How many times have we seen in the Old Testament God’s representatives acting in ungodly manners and doing things wrong? How can you trust that every act that a person that presents himself as a prophet is done so according to God’s will and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
If a miracle happens; praise God, but don’t praise the man, or even assume he is beyond question. If the miracle goes against Scripture, then it is subject to question.
But the point is, there’s only one human being that has ever lived on this earth who we know 100 percent of the time functions only as God’s representative, and that when He does a miracle, it can only be attributed to the Holy Spirit – it is Jesus.
It is this individual – Jesus, that if we chose to knowingly accused of functioning in the power of Satan, while understanding that He is functioning in the power of the Holy Spirit, it is this type of slander that is specific to the sin of blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, and doing so for personal profit as the Pharisees did.
No Other Example in Scripture
I see no place in Scripture that further addresses “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” by name, and to expand it beyond the scriptural reference made by Jesus, so as to extend a definition beyond Jesus’ words would be presumptuous upon the Scripture. – it would be “reading into the text.” And the language does not appear to extend it beyond its local application.
There are passages which SEEM to alluded to this sin.
Allowing God’s Word to Interpret itself Based upon Repetition and Clarity
However, if God has chosen not to specifically instruct us concerning this sin, we should not play with such a dangerous subject – to do so is reading into the Scriptures, and placing yourself in a position of grandiosity; where it is only God who condemns.
One Example Regarding An Ambiguous Text
1 John 5:16 is not a reference to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, in that it is not named, nor referred too. We also note in the next verse (17), that John seems to note that the sin as being nonspecific.
We know there are sins unto death, such as disrespecting the manner that you take the Lord’s supper as seen in 1 Corinthians 11:29-30, as well as Ananias and Sapphira deception as seen in Acts 5:1-11.
Yet, neither one of these sins that lead to death are as serious as the sin that leads to eternal damnation and is unforgivable, such as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
The Necessity of Biblical Interpretation
God does nothing unfair, if there is a sin that you and I can commit that is not forgivable, would our loving Father not be sure to warn us in such a way that we would not accidentally commit it?
To read 1 John 5:16, 1 Corinthians 11:29-39, and Acts 5:1-11; and conclude that these are references to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, is to extend into these passages beyond the plain meaning found in the text themselves, as well as the intended meaning by the writers, and is therefore incorrect and unbiblical. Again, this is “reading into the text.
The doctrinal discipline of biblical interpretation is referred to as Hermeneutics, and addresses the different tools that are used in interpreting God’s word, many times referred to as laws or principles.
These laws are meant to guide the Bible student in understanding God’s word based upon established principles found in God’s word, whereas many individuals in their pride and arrogance refuse to seek the wise counsel of godly scholars in understanding and handling God’s word, have come up with many heretical teachings.
This subject is one of the victims of such sloppy handling of God’s word. Two such tools that will help in our current endeavor are listed next.
The Law of Frequency”4
There is a principle within the Bible of repetition (some have called it the “Principle of Repetition”), wherein God repeats Himself to assure that He’s not misunderstood.
The Torah is riddled with examples of this, to the place of exhaustion. This principle can be found all through the Scripture (the apostle specifically taught about the principle of repetition – Philippians 3:1; Titus 3:8, 2 Peter 1:12-13, 2 Peter 3:1-2), especially in the Psalms and Proverbs.
If God states something only once, there is a specific reason for it, which is manifested when the passage is understood.
However, when it comes to danger and warnings, God is always repetitive, as any good parent would be, so since the issue of the so-called “unforgivable sin,” or better stated “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” would be one of these dangerous examples, and God has not produced more Scripture to warn us, it makes no sense that it is something that is so easily done unknowingly.
The Law of Perspicuity5
Also what is referred to as the clarity found within God’s word needs to be taken into consideration as well. The issue of perspicuity addresses the fact that when God utilizes a majority of Scripture which is clear, plain and understandable; and there are a few Scriptures which are more mysterious and less clear, we are to stay with the majority of text which is plain and understandable, rather than allowing a few passages which are confusing and harder to understand lead us in interpreting the text or subject matter.
Usually this is because of translation problems, a lack of awareness concerning cultural issues, or the fact that God doesn’t want us to understand this until an appointed time, such as the 70 weeks of Daniel wherein God sealed up that passage in till the last hundred years or so.
Concerning The view that I postulated concerning the inability of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit to be committed in our current day as reviewed by Dr. Ron Rhodes, who states:
“The backdrop of this passage [Matthew 12:30-35] is that the Jews who had just witnessed a mighty miracle of Christ should have recognized that Jesus performed this miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit. After all, the Hebrew Scriptures, with which the Jews were all familiar, prophesied that when the Messiah came He would perform many mighty miracles in the power of the spirit (See Isaiah 35:5-6).
Instead, these Jewish leaders claim that Christ did this and other miracles in the power of the devil, the unholy spirit. This was a sin against the Holy Spirit. This shows that these Jewish leaders had hardened themselves against the things of God.”
Dr. Rhodes Continues on to say: “I believe that Matthew 12 describes a unique situation among the Jews, and that the actual committing of this sin requires the presence of the Messiah on the earth doing his messianic miracles. In view of this, I don’t think this sin can be duplicated today exactly as described in Matthew 12.
I think it’s also important to realize that a human being can repent of his or her personal sins (whatever they are) and turn to God as long is there is breath still left in his or her lungs. Until the moment of death, every human being has the opportunity to turn to God to receive the free gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8,9).“2
One Other Thought
What is also in view here is that if someone denies that Jesus did His miracles according to the power of God in the Holy Spirit, then they equate Him with sin, as well for lying, which also calls into question the Deity of Jesus Christ. , which is also a sin unto death, that unless they repent they shall be damned to hell as well.
Therefore, they cannot place faith in Christ as the Son of the living God, as their propitiation for sin – and be saved – this is an unforgivable sin.
This would also mandate a predetermined mindset, which could not be an accidental sin of omission or commission. And this would circumvent any opportunity for repentance having thought through the position and concluded that Jesus was not the Messiah.
Jesus Himself spoke about the necessity for changing one’s mind, which is repentance3 (A changing of mindset and life pursuits from carnality to God’s Will), and any refusal to accept God’s only propitiation for sin necessitated damnation, and therefore was unforgivable.
Easton‘s Bible Dictionary states:
Topics: Blasphemy
Text: In the sense of speaking evil of God this word is found in Ps. 74: 18; Isa. 52:5; Rom. 2:24; Rev. 13:1, 6; 16:9, 11, 21. It denotes also any kind of calumny, or evil-speaking, or abuse (1 Kings 21:10; Acts 13:45; 18:6, etc.). Our Lord was accused of blasphemy when he claimed to be the Son of God (Matt. 26:65; comp. Matt. 9:3; Mark 2:7). They who deny his Messiahship blaspheme Jesus (Luke 22:65; John 10:36).
Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matt. 12:31, 32; Mark 3:28, 29; Luke 12:10) is regarded by some as a continued and obstinate rejection of the gospel, and hence is an unpardonable sin, simply because as long as a sinner remains in unbelief he voluntarily excludes himself from pardon.
Others regard the expression as designating the sin of attributing to the power of Satan those miracles which Christ performed, or generally those works which are the result of the Spirit’s agency.
Conclusion
To reiterate – you cannot commit Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit by accident, without intent, it is God you are slandering and you know it because the Holy Spirit is the proof of God right in front of you as seen in a miracle – a miracle which you knowingly lie and slander about equating it with the devil for your own personal gain, the same as the Pharisees did.
You are calling what you know is divine, evil. That is why it is unforgivable, because you know 100% what you are doing, no mistake; you are telling God, He is evil and you want nothing to do with Him.
The only person that can do this, is one who is completely antagonistic to God.
When a person does this, he is not going to change his mind – it is done!

4. The Law of Frequency
Commonly referred to as the “Repeatable’s of God;” is a principle of emphasis, where the emphasize is placed due to the importance of something, where noting the frequency for which God treats any subject further displays the importance He wishes to convey concerning that particular subject (And volume counts; such as: Psalms 119, which is the longest chapter [volume wise] in the longest book [volume wise] of the Bible, and which deals primarily with the “Word of God;” this displays God’s concern in regard to the importance of God’s Word ~ If you can’t trust what He says, how can you trust what He will do).
Notice when all four gospels present the same event (It is common to have a passage in only one book, yet take note when it is seen in all four Gospels!); this emphasis is there for a reason – it must be very important.
As a wise parent, God uses clarity and emphasis, by way of repetition; concerning that which is a priority, as compared to that which is not (Phil. 3:1; Tit. 3:8; 2 Pet. 1:12-13; 3:1-2).
5. The Law of Perspicuity
Perspicuity, means to make clear and self-evident, simple and observable. This principle is that we are to allow the clear things of the Scripture to dictate the less clear things. Many of the problems which stem out of misinterpretation, as well as unbiblical doctrines; can be seen in the practice of utilizing an unclear text, which appears to contradict the majority of text on the subject – which are clear.
To reiterate, the issue of perspicuity is a rule of Biblical interpretation that we follow the greater volume of unambiguous Scripture, rather a few arbitrary conflicting passages, is not just wise; it is Biblical (Deut. 30:11-14; Psa. 19:7-9; 119:105, 130; 2 Cor. 1:13-14; Phil. 3:15-16; 2 Tim. 3:14-17; 1 Pet. 1:3-4; 1:16-21).
We should remember that many of the problems due to a passage being vague or ambiguous is because of either translation problems into the English, wherein the Greek does not hold any arbitrary meaning (this is not to say there is not room for debate; however liberal scholars always find ways to twist the Greek as well as English teachers that do the same), or the lack of understanding concerning cultural issues that were current at the time the Scripture was written, and we are currently unaware of today.
The difference between ‘involvement’ and ‘commitment’
is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast:
the chicken was ‘involved’ – the pig was ‘committed’

Every sin is blasphemy against the Holy spirit.
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (Bible, New testament, James 2:10)
So blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven along with all sins because Jesus died for you you will go to Heaven.
My words of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit are credited to Jesus Christ.
And Jesus Christ’s words are credited to me.
Jesus Christ is the only one who has to wory about the punishment for blasphemy against the holy spirit. It is good news for me and bad news for Jesus Christ.

I apologize for taking so long to respond as I’ve been very busy.
Christopher, there’s a time to use a soft word in dealing with error, yet there are other times that ice water in the face may be more appropriate.
More appropriate because when making errors concerning God’s Word and what it means, we can affect another persons spiritual state by affecting their faith – their belief, by presenting un-biblical teachings.
Christopher due to the presentation style that you have exhibited you displayed yourself as speaking with authority – yourself not as an student; but by assertion as a teacher, someone who should know how wrong what you’re saying actually is. Taking Scriptures and loosely wrapping them together while not maintaining the context that they all share is bad exegesis. Now if you understand what that means, then you’ll understand why I make the following statement.
First off every sin is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. The Greek word which is translated into the English word “blaspheme” (blasphēmeō); and means: to vilify; specifically to speak impiously: – (speak) blaspheme (-er, -mously, -my), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil.
The word blaspheme as used in the New Testament would beasts synonymous with our word “slander.”
Yet my point is this. Blasphemy is a type of sin is not synonymous with sin. Sin is the name of a category of substance wherein blasphemy is one of its subsets. So to say that every sin is blasphemy is totally incorrect and not as espoused by any credible sources. To blasphemy also met one had to use their lips. Yet not all sins against God involved the lips. I don’t know if you’re trying to sound flowery what, but I must say this is a ridiculous statement. If you have a source please provide them and I will apologize if any other accredited individual puts forth this error in entomology.
Trying to use James statement to acquaint that all sin is the same and therefore forgivable misses the point of what James is trying to communicate. The point that he was making is that all sin is less than perfection and I’m tolerable no matter what we would consider the severity to be.
Where we received our doctrine that all sin is the same from God is not from this passage but simply from the translation of the word for “sin,” in the Greek hamartia, which means to miss the mark. It is an archery term which which used for hitting the bull’s-eye which was the size of the era what self.
Anything, anything whatsoever was not perfectly centered in the bull’s-eye was hamartia, literally translated: “missing the mark.” What sin is is anything that does not match the perfection of God, that which misses the mark of that perfection is hamartia in the Greek, sin in the English.
It does not mean that all sin is the same to God, which is a ridiculous assumption.
It is showing the vast seriousness of sin and that it is all unacceptable will matter what level man made place it. Sin is sin is sin, is a good way of putting.
But I’m afraid your attempt to state that all sin is the same, and therefore as all sin can be forgiven, because all sin can be forgiven is an assumption without a distinction.
The reason what you’re saying is so long is because you are attempting to dispute what Jesus, which was if there is a sin unto death which there is no forgiveness up.
You could try to recategorize it and say that he was speaking about those that reject the gospel but that’s not the subject that he was dealing with when he was dealing with their blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
On the one occasion that Jesus speaks about the specific blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (NO WHERE FOUND IN SCRIPTURE) the Greek words leave us no doubt that when Jesus says: “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.” (Mat 12:31)
This passage is straightforward, even without breaking the verb down, there is no exception made here.
Jesus is drawing a distinction to the sin by these statements, and now you’re trying to present that he either didn’t mean it or was lying.
First you misinterpret the word blasphemy, next you use a Scripture in James two contorted to make a point that the text is not make itself – this is called violating the context.
Next you dispute what Jesus Christ said when he said that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was a sin that could not be forgiven.
Then you again attempt to state that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was placed on Christ when Christ himself said there would be no forgiveness.
Where are you getting this stuff?
And it’s not Christ words are credited to you – it is his blood.
And why would you ever say it was bad news for Jesus.
Because he had to die for our sins? God’s plan of the ages was not bad news – in fact what does the word gospel meeting GOOD NEWS.

When you take on the position of a student, you humble yourself before others, seeking for what the Holy Spirit would show you are those precious evidences with in God’s word that validate our faith. Why do you think Romans 10:17 states that “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
It’s because we should be able to dig deep into God’s word and have it teach us and show that it is a book that could not have been written of men.
Not just the prophecies, but the insights, the wisdom, the elegance, the exactness, and thoroughness of God’s word is where faith grows in the God that wrote it.
Let me display what can be grasped when you are paired to be a student first, then a teacher later when God is ready.
Of course you know Romans 2:8 which states: “For ye are saved by grace through faith and that not of yourselves…”
The Greek word translated into the English: “are saved” is: will sesosmenoi. It is a verb
Perfect tense: Completed in the Past, Results in the Present
Participle mood: Indicating a Full Completion, a Reality
Passive voice: Subject Receives the Action
Second Person: Applies to the Person Reading It, Who Meets the Conditions
Plural number: All May Receive, If Conditions Met, No Exceptions
What this means is that the phrase “have been saved” (“are ye saved”) is broke down as follows:
1. It is a (Periphrastic) Participle Mood (PPM), which means; it is used to complete the idea of the main verb, it is called supplementary. An example is, the statement “he is destroying,” is changed to “he has destroyed completely,” when the verb is changed to a PPM. In the key text, it reinforces the concept of being completely saved, with no possibility of being or becoming unsaved.
2. It is in the Perfect Tense, which means it started in the past, is acting in the present, and will continue into the future. The action of the verb started in the past, continues on presently, and will proceed on to its completion. It cannot fail; it is ongoing till it’s fulfilled. Once gained, salvation cannot be lost.
3. It is in the Passive Voice, meaning that the one being saved did nothing to become saved. The action of the verb was done by someone else; in this case, God. God and God alone saves, the subject of the verb (man) has no power to save it’s (him) self.
4. It is in the Second Person, meaning what is being said is intended for the reader, the person who is reading this passage, the person who meets the conditions in the passage. Therefore, the person reading this passage, which lives by faith; shall (was-is-will) be saved.
5. It is in the Plural Number, meaning what is being said is meant for all who read it. God wants all of those who read this passage, who meets the conditions of this passage to know they are saved, though no act of their own, by His grace alone.
Therefore in understanding the Greek makeup of this word we understand that we cannot lose our salvation because our salvation is not contingent upon our faithfulness but God.
That Paul even says it will “we are faithless, yet He is faithful”. You should look in Hebrews Chapter 11 at the faith of Abraham. What it doesn’t list is the sins of Abraham, the worst of such sins are the two times he was so afraid that he told Pharaoh and another king that his wife was his sister.
You talk about a lack of faith. She had already been promised to be the mother of the nation that would come out of his will, yet Abraham; who received the promises over 15 years before at times in his life for he didn’t act in faith. The point of this passage is that we are not saved by faith. If we were then we would simply be trading are works of faith for salvation.
We are saved by grace, unmerited favor. Yet to access that unmerited grace, we must exercise faith. An understanding that your salvation is not kept by you but By God, is a mandatory starting place of humility to understand how to approach God’s word. The gospel is in the humanistic manifesto. You don’t get what you deserve in life, you get what God determines.
The humanism within the church that teaches that if a believer starts living simple that it’s not fair and they can lose their salvation, is based upon the end be of those it cannot participate the sin and is diabolical. You teach people they can lose what God alone is given to them. How did a child had nothing to do with its birth, yet Jesus said that we were to be born again.

I Remember this one time when i was kid (i was something like 3-5) when i have had a bad day, like many children i was very foolish and i would make bad statements when angry, i was very angry to my father and mother about something, i went outside and i found my dad there, i started to talk to him with a foul childish fashion. After a little chit chat my father mentioned Jesus and God, and angrily i replied that i dont belive in Jesus because i have never seen him or witnessed any site of him in my life offcourse i was not beign totally serious and i did not say it from my heart, i was just so angry that i got religion in to this chat (Im not sure if i was insulting/saying i dont belive in Jesus or God, im not sure if i was talking about Jesus or God) But my father was little angry and he said something else to me that i dont remember but anyway, am i going to hell if i said that and i was not being serious and i did not say it from my heart and i did not mean it and wasn’t trying to make fun/insult/blasphemy about Jesus or God. I am just so curious and terrified right now, because i am a christian and i dont want to end up in hell! HELP!

God is much bigger, and better than our earthly fathers, right? Would a good earthly father leave a gun laying around so his children could easily hurt themselves? No. Nor would our Heavenly Father. Remember Paul, he slandered the Christians and as a leader it was his job to collect Christians and evenly have them killed, He was very aggressive in doing so. He said trouble things about the God of the Christians, Jesus, and the miracles they did – therefore speaking slander against the Holy Spirit, yet he became saved. I understand I will stand before God if I have misspoken or given people false assurances concerning the Bible what it says.
I have spent 40 years of my life in this book, even when I was not following it.
I believe the Bible to be the inerrant inspired Word of God which is not to be tampered with or taken lightly.
Concerning your question, there is no way that you committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Now concerning your eternal destiny, this is a different question.
You must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ to be saved and spend eternity with God as opposed to eternity in hell.
You are not saved by works, but by grace – which is God’s unmerited favor.
You have access to this grace you must exercise faith.

I would suggest that you read it and understand where you stand with Jesus.
I’m not here to bring condemnation, if a person has committed their life to Jesus Christ by trusting in Him, allowing him to be their Lord and Savior – you are saved!!!

When a person is a child of God, THEY CAN NEVER BE ABORTED OR UN-BORN, AND GOD WILL NEVER DISOWN THEM.
We are saved because God loves us, as John 3:16 says:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The verbs in this passage are: “he gave” in the Greek grammar is in Tense-Aorist, meaning it is an Action that Occurred in the Past (“Once & for all”) to connote certainty.
This is what Jesus did for us 2000 years ago when he died on the cross for our sins, you cannot undo it!
The Greek grammar of this verb is also in the Voice-Active, meaning that it is God that does the saving not us.
And it is in the indicative mood meaning that it is a complete certainty – and cannot be undone.
Salvation is something that once gained can never be lost.
So let me leave you with this last verse.
The reason I used John 3:16 is this passage speaks of God’s love.
We must understand that it is not our ability to hold onto Him that keeps us saved.
We are frail humans that sin all the time.
How inconsistent we are, and how mean of God that He would orchestrate salvation that could only be held on to ONLY by OUR effort – our works.
Our salvation is dependent upon God in His love.
It is He that holds onto us, it is He that saves us, it is He that is the center of the universe, and not us.
This last verse speaks about what can separate us from God’s love, and for those that would say “yes but what about man’s lack of love, his own ability or inability to hold onto God?”
One of the phrases in this passage is that of the things that cannot separate us from God, one of them is: “any other creature.”
This phrase includes the person being saved, any other human beings; and anything else – period.
Nothing can separate us from God, because it is God who holds onto use.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:35-39)

I never take someones salvation for granted, it is between them and God; but I believe you and I will meet in heaven. The Scripture says that man does not seek after God (“There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” ~ Romans 3:11); it is the Holy Spirit that cause us to seek after God because we are one of His children. Therefore, from what you have said I do believe we are brothers in Christ. I’m sorry if I seemed to imply otherwise. It is the faith that you express that warms my soul. I am christian who prays everyday (though I don’t read the bible regularly after today I will) its me here again, early I was being confronted by blashemy thoughts and guilt and I confronted those feelings and thoughts outloud and i said….”my jesus christ used black magic? Nope he used the holy spirit” I spoke and said this to silence the blashemy thoughts and guilt in my head from sins, but did I commit the unpardonable sin? The holy spirit has been working and turning inside me for 3days straight/or it may be my own guilt!!! I have repented many many times, also I asked jesus to come into my life and I recognized him as my lord and savior as a small child and had recently devoted my self to god FULLY when this happened! It was an accident and the words came out the wrong I told god! (honestly i repeated the phrase and the question in a hope that it will sound more clarified but I feel horrible, and I had no inttentions of blashemy, I actually ment the opposite when I spoke it and tried to make a liar of satan/demons that where making feel that I had blashemed)

When Jesus spoke about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit it was not about the thoughts of those that committed it, it was about their behavior and what they said in opposing him.
Your thought life is not at question here.
I get crazy thoughts all the time, you’re not the only one. And even if I verbalize those thoughts I must understand that I am a sinful man and come up with terrible things within my thought life even if I verbalize them.
This is not what’s at hand.
You did not commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
unless you were standing in front of Jesus opposing him, knowing that what he did was of God and slandering him, And in slandering the Holy Spirit who was the power wherein he did miracles, and you did this in defense of your own self and your income – This is what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is – this is what the Pharisees did.
The Greek word for blasphemy is to openly slander – Furthermore, it is to lie in the slander – lying is part of it, but it is a lie that you know was a lie and you don’t care about the truth is, you care about winning the argument and so you slander somebody by Knowingly lying about them – this is what the Pharisees did concerning the Holy Spirit who was the power that did the miracles that Jesus performed – it is not something that can be accidentally done, nor is it something that the person repents about because they knowingly did it, indicating there was premeditation – there was for thought in their behavior which they did not repent of.
There is no where in Scripture that the Pharisees repented of their blasphemy of the Holy Spirit – again to repeat you cannot accidentally do it.
In America we miss use the word blasphemy, but it is what the Bible says that is our guide; what the Greek word in the Bible, what it says that is to be our guide.
So what you explain to me in no way shape or form is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Plus you must remember again it was the situation that Jesus was encountering that displays what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is.
These religious leaders had previously called him master, and stated they knew that he was from God, yet whenever he contradicted the rules that they set up concerning working on the Sabbath, wherein they distorted what the Old Testament stated – yet they taught something that Jesus violated.
And what was his violation. He healed a man on the Sabbath.
Now what they did was, because they wanted to safeguard their income and their prestige, they lied openly with their mouth to the people and confronted Jesus by saying that he did the miracle in the power of the devil.
They knowingly lied about him in order to protect their income – they slandered him knowing it was a lie – it was a physical situation that impacted people standing around.
This is unforgivable because you can’t accidentally do it – it means that you’ve made up your mind to go against God and call the Holy Spirit of God evil – so it’s not so much that you can’t be forgiven as you won’t be forgiven – you’ve made up your mind – and for that God will not forgive you.
More generally to the point (this is a more general response which has more insight concerning the text – and though it is repetitious of the above please read it, because you need to repeatedly hear the truth to remember it)
I’m assuming that you’re writing because of my article regarding blasphemy of the Holy Spirit which I produced on our blog site.
I would urge you to read that article again and reread it because it is a deep subject, but it sheds much light on the subject.
Remember what the Scripture says, blasphemy against Jesus himself is forgivable; yet directed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not.
What we must do is go back to the text that I cited where Jesus spoke about this and examine the context of what he meant. Matt. 12:31
We cannot take it out of context and apply it to anything outside of what the situation mandated unless it is a principal, wherein the principal can be used across the board. However I would advise that when it comes to citing something based upon a principal that you watch very carefully because again this is how cults and false teachers of use the word of God, stating that there is a principal which they misapply to something outside of the original intent, so be careful.
You know that every one of the individuals with in the old and New Testament who were contemplating and interpreting prior writers within the old and New Testament, especially prophecies; that they always took them as literal and never figurative.
The Bible is a literal book, written about literal subjects, about literal people, with a literal instructions and mandates, because it came from a literal God
It is the text itself that tells us of the particular details that are necessary to understand concerning the subject.
You see to commit blasphemy, based on the Greek word that is used for “blasphemy”; is to slander someone or something knowing it is a lie.
You cannot blasphemy the Holy Spirit without lying about the Holy Spirit and slandering him; knowingly.
It is not an emotional response of anger, it is a calculated response.
You see the Pharisees saw Jesus doing miracles. He was stealing their spotlight, the people were believing in him rather than the Pharisees.
Their ego and pride was involved and they feared losing their valuable position as spiritual leaders of Israel to this young teacher, who was proving that he was God’s Messiah by doing miracles that no other man had ever done before.
It is these Pharisees who knew that Jesus did the miracles based upon the Heavenly Father power as they displayed earlier when they called him “teacher” – and more so when they called him “master.”
They were showing that they did believe that he was an anointed prophet of God; if not “thy” anointed prophet, referred to as the Messiah.
You see they made a calculated choice to attempt to make him look bad to uphold their own position of authority. They knew that the Holy Spirit was behind the miracles, and with complete knowledge in planning they came against Jesus and said that the miracles that he did were in the power of the devil, not the Holy Spirit. They were slandering the Holy Spirit. This is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
The reason I say that it can’t be done today is because if any man does a miracle today, how do we know that it is really the Holy Spirit that is behind it – we don’t.
All these miracle workers today are human men that sin and therefore can claim credit for things that may be only God should claim credit; or that even the devil is behind in order to give them credibility as a spread lies about God and his word.
There’s been only one perfect man that’s ever existed that has done miracles, wherein knowing the miracles had to be done by the Holy Spirit, and no other spirit; if you claim that this spirit was of devil when you know what wasn’t; this is the lie they accused the Holy Spirit and it could only been done concerning Jesus Christ the perfect man.
Today any man that claims that he does miracle, even if he says it’s of God; we do not know.
The reason why we don’t know is we do not see inside that man’s heart and know that it is fact.
God is the only one that sees inside of a man’s heart, and knows if he speaks the truth; and knows if that man is truly a representative of God himself.
Remember what both John and Paul say, in the last days there shall be many Antichrist. The word antichrist does not mean that they are directly against Christ. The word “anti” in the Greek means “false” – they are false Christ.
They are workers of the devil that were imposters, like the “False Prophet” of the book of Revelation, or the Antichrist.
Both these men will perform miracles and say they are of God, but the point is they are false prophets that use the miracles to try to gain credibility – and they do this openly knowing that they are liars and coming against God.
The only way you could directly blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to know 100% that the Holy Spirit is behind the miracle. And for this to be done on the miracle worker would have to be a perfect man, not subject to sin – hence Jesus Christ is the only one wherein if he did a miracle and said it was by the Holy Spirit we know this is a fact – any other man that would claim this we would not know for sure.
And then we would have to claim that the miracle that Jesus did, which we know could only be done by the Holy Spirit – we would have to lie and claim it was done by the devil himself.
So your question is “no you are not blasphemy the Holy Spirit, especially when we are dealing with our thought life and not accusing the Holy Spirit of doing things in the power of the devil.”
What is behind these evil thoughts and filthy thoughts that you, and I; and every human being encounters is that we are sinful creatures – we are fallen.
Just because people around you may look Holy on the outside, and may even claim that they don’t have these thoughts, and make you feel isolated because you are such a center for having these thoughts. This does not make what they say true. God’s word is true, and it says that we all sin.
1 John 1:8 says:
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
The verb used here for “we have” is in the perfect tense, meaning it is a constant occurrence that never ever stops. We were born sinners and we will die sinners, but if we are believers the sin will stop when we shed this earthly body.
This also means the Holy Spirit dwells within us to convict us of sin. John 16:7-13 says:
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
It is our responsibility to take every thought captive, that when we have these thoughts, recognize that they are based on our flesh, and refuse to dwell on them; and ask the Holy Spirit to help us to stop thinking these thoughts. Yet it is our job to stop dwelling on them.
2 Cor. 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
Php 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
The more that a person gives into these thoughts, the more often the thoughts will return.
What I’m saying is it is your responsibility to handle the situation. And don’t allow the devil to convince you that you are not a child of God because you are blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
The devil is the blasphemer of the Holy Spirit.
It is your responsibility to study God’s word and understand what it says and follow what it says, not what other men say, and less what they say is what God’s word says. It is your job to get into God’s word and check out what I say, or anyone else says.
We are NOT to be led by our own feelings; but what God’s word says.
God is a good father right? A good father would never leave a dangerous weapon where his children can get to it without warning them about the danger of that weapon – correct?
Don’t you notice that the only sin that is unforgivable, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is only directly spoken about one person who is completely sinless and therefore, it would be lying against the sinless person – there’s only been one person on earth that is sinless and never lies, it is Jesus Christ.
There are Scriptures which speak about a sin unto death, but this is vague and is actually not speaking about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. (1 John 5:17)
You see Scriptures that are vague should not lead our misunderstanding; when there are Scriptures that are clearly understood that we should use to understand what God’s word is saying. In the absence of God speaking about the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is very insightful and that God does not speak about it as if it is something that you are I will deal with. It is something that Jesus alone dealt with.
Would a good father be vague about something that is so dangerous.
I tell you this that a good father would repeat is warning; he would clarify and give you details concerning something so dangerous.
You see the Bible can tell us a lot about things it doesn’t say indicating that they are not what we are to think upon.
Because we know that if this was truly something that you or I could do so easily; that a good father would tell us about – he would warn us about it.
Yet I have studied the Greek and there are no other examples of anyone speaking about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
There are Scriptures that men say talk about it, but again wouldn’t a good father use the exact term so we know exactly what he was saying.
Man that say that you and I can blaspheme the Holy Spirit are ignorant of God’s word.
They are usually self-righteous thinking they never do anything wrong – from these stay away.
Fellowship with strong believers that don’t need to bring you into bondage.
Follow God’s word and not man.
Your sensitivity is good in God’s sight.
It means that the Holy Spirit makes you feel bad when you have evil thoughts, just as I and everybody else have had.
What does God’s word say about your situation?
1 John 1:8-10 says:
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
So as this and the other Scriptures say what you do. When the thoughts, reject them in the name of Jesus Christ.
Confess that it is sin and renounce it.
Open God’s Word and start reading the Bible or do something else to occupy your mind.
Think on things that are good, that are noble; as the Scripture says.
Phillp. 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
And finally:
1 Peter 1:13 “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ”

So you can only commit this sin if you are speaking to others and trying to convince them that jesus isn’t the who he say he is (which in fact he is)…I feel guilty because I said outloud to my self.. a rethorical question i asked my blashemy thoughts and guilty conscious i uttered a few times to myself aloud “My jesus christ used black magic?, Nope he used the holy spirit” I repeated this then felt a deep sorrow…so the devil is trying to convince me I commited this sin, and which I did not?

What you need to realize is that to commit the unforgivable sin is different than any other sin. If your mind has problems, you have racing thoughts you can’t control; perhaps the problem is biological in nature, and if this is the case, then again were not dealing with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. It’s not so much about Christ as he was the only person that was perfect and that Did miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, wherein another person knowing this to be the truth could lie about it by slandering the Holy Spirit, by lying about the Holy Spirit in order to maintain their own power in position as the Pharisees did. What you did was speak something that you probably don’t really believe. And again this is forgivable, it is not the unforgivable sin. What that means is that if you keep holding onto feeling guilty after you have confessed this sin, and having repented of it; then you must not believe that Jesus for gave you for it – and the Bible teaches us if we Confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us those sins – 1 John 19 says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This is what you have to accept the truth of God’s word – forget about your feelings of guilt. Guilt is good when it motivates us to change our behavior, yet once we’ve change that behavior and confessed our sin, if we refuse to give up the guilt, we refuse to allow for what God has said in his word. And forget about the devil being there in the room with you. We know that the devil has a body he cannot be in all places at once only the Holy Spirit of God can do that. I’m not saying that his fallen Angel helpers are tormenting you, but again what does God’s word say. Put your trust in faith in God and understand that God’s word has said if you repent you are forgiven – you need to give up on this and let it go. If your mind refuses again, this may be a biological issue that you need to talk to your doctor about. But believe me, we all get the most ridiculous thoughts in our head, at least I do. They make no sense whatsoever, but even if I confess these as words it is the behavior that Christ is looking at. If you do something crazy that you’ve said in you harm others that is sin. If you say something wrong or sinful, do you really feel that way; if you do then you need to change your mind and believe what God’s word says. And if you don’t believe what comes out of your mouth, then again this isn’t a true thought this is gibberish, and either just a fleeting thought as a call it, or a chemical imbalance. You know if I don’t drink enough water it throws off the chemistry in my brain and my mind does not think very clearly, I can get confused easily, and come up with weird staff. I have dreams that are absolutely crazy, but I’m not held accountable for those things that I can’t control. It is what I can and cannot control, and my ability to repent. Repent means to change your mind in such a way that it actually changes your behavior, but it starts in the mind. So you confess that you have said something inappropriate or sinful, and that you don’t really believe it, and therefore asked for forgiveness. It doesn’t matter if you feel forgiven, what matters is the fact of God that he is stated he will forgive you. You hold onto that, not your own emotions. Emotions can drive us nuts, we are never told to be led with our emotions. In fact when we read the word heart in both the Old Testament and and the New Testament it is not talking about the emotions. Please follow this link and read about the human heart this may give you some understanding. Also reread what I wrote about blasphemy, the article itself. If you need to read it three or four times make yourself do it. It is very long and it seems to get deep, but don’t give up. What you need right now is discipline. I know that jesus is my lord and savior and I am a Christian! I have started a diet recently and maybe I had a chemical imbalance that me think those thoughts or I believe it was demons! I said that as a rhetorical question and my heart got broken just as I used his name in that statement! I wasn’t speaking against the spirit and I believe in my heart that god knows I was trying to defend him…I believe you are right and I didn’t commit the send and now I will lay back and accept god forgiveness, Thanks for the help

I didn’t believe that jesus used anything other than the holy spirit. …but deep down the pharisees didn’t believe jesus was really using the devil did they? Is the difference between me and them was because they made themselves and other people believe in their lies? I have to be sure my brother I want to feel 100 percent free from this? Yes you’re correct. The difference between you and the Pharisees is Two great to even consider. You have not only confessed Jesus Christ what you believe in him, which is what we call putting your faith in him. You trust in him. Faith is the most basic ingredient every relationship we will ever have. This is one of the most important ways that we are made in God’s image, in that we have a need to trust people. The Pharisees, Even if they believe that Jesus was the Messiah, they did not put their faith in him otherwise they would not have knowingly lied about him and taught others a lie. There is A big difference between belief, which is a mental exercise, and faith which is a complete reliance upon. Member that James said that even the Devils believe. They mentally know that God exist, yet they don’t put their trust in him. The Pharisees mentally thought that Jesus was a man of God, that we don’t fully Know if they understood him in the way that you when I do as being the sacrifice for sin for the whole world. But with the knowledge that they had, the belief; they did not go the next step which was to have faith.
The Easiest way to understand faith from a biblical standpoint. It starts with a belief, a mental thought; then through reading God’s word and seeing God’s track record, that repeatedly this book displays evidence that we believe That only God could’ve written it. Therefore this confidence, which is more than mental belief; Grove’s to the extent that it changes our actions – these actions are what we call faith. Faith is a verb. If you remember your grammar of verb is an action. Faith starts with mental belief, grow stronger and stronger until it creates a change in actions. The Pharisees never changed their actions, they never went beyond a mental thought process. An old acronym that I use all the time concerning faith, as it is seen from the outside, as I would see it and someone else, would be:
Action based upon belief, sustained by confidence. This is called the ABC’s of faith. When I see faith in another person like an Abraham in the Bible. I first see his action in the way he behaves, which displays that he has a belief, but most importantly that this belief is said stained by a strongly held confidence.
So the difference between you and the Pharisees, besides the fact that you have accepted Christ as your Savior; which makes all the difference in the world and is enough to be said – if we looked further the main differences they only had a loosely held belief that never change their actions, they didn’t have faith, they had belief only.
However you have displayed that your belief has went on and has a confidence wherein it changes your actions.
Look how concerned you have been that you may have offended the Holy Spirit.
Look how much worry and time you’ve spent and talking to me about this.
This displays how great Lee important this is to you – this displays your confidence in God and your fear in God, both are mandated or important in the Bible.
When were told to fear God it is a reverence in understanding his awesome power, but then at the same time were told that we can come to him as our heavenly father.
I wish to reassure you that the preoccupation that you have concerning this issue displays how much you believe in God and his word and these actions as seen in the time spent over this issue display your faith in God.
What you need to do now is to rest in him and his word.
What you need to do is spend more time reading his word, because this is where faith really takes off and grows.
Romans 10:17 states: “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”
This vernacular sounds unusual to us but all that this verse is saying is that faith is supposed to come from a spending time reading God’s word, seeing the prophecies that he made by men thousands of years before they occurred, observing the unbelievable wisdom that is communicated that is beyond human creation, watching how the insights into life in science have been proven true over the years since it was written.
The faith that comes is that this book was not written by a mere man but was written by God. So as it tells you about God you can place your faith in this book and the God who had it written, this is where your faith grows into confidence.
So if you want to have greater faith, based upon what the Bible says as in the above Scripture, spend more time in God’s word.
It’s like a boy that never knew his father who was killed in the war when he was quite young, who as a young man found boxes of letters that were written to him by his father instructing him how to live his life and how much he loved his son even though he was caught fighting in a foreign war.
The Bible is this love letter from our father to tell us how to live life.
The Bible is a love letter which tells us about our father so we can love him more deeply.
This is why the Bible is so important.
Prayer is me speaking to God.
The Bible is God speaking back to me.

Wow your understanding is amazing and truely a blessing to a young man like myself, I am only 21 and I am learning so much! So your saying that me and the pharisees both had belief (like most people and some people who claim to be christians (not saying they arent)…but I actually displayed my faith in him with my statement and did nothing wrong (other then my poor choice of words) but I actually just showed lord jesus my faith in him.

You are correct.
Romans 3:11 states:
“There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”
The very fact of your concern over pleasing God, you’re worrying about sinning against God displays that the Holy Spirit is inside of you motivating those feelings.
Because as this passage states we do not seek God on our own, so if a person does seek the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ himself; this is evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as stated in Ephesians 1:13, Which states:
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise”
It is the Holy Spirit inside of you that motivates you to seek after Jesus Christ, and God in pleasing Him.
I would suggest that you read the following articles. Because what you need to do is concentrating on how to exercise more and greater faith in God.
Hebrews 11:6 states:
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Out of all the values known to man, Such as: love, Forgiveness, repentance, hope, grace, to name a few; the only value that God mandates to please him is faith.
There is no other Scripture in the Bible that states of anything else that pleases God.
In fact when the Scripture talks about Jesus it specifically states that he please God as seen in The following Scriptures:
(Mat 3:17) “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
(Mat 12:18) “Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.”
(Mat 17:5) “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
(Mar 1:11) “And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
(Luk 3:22) “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
As the Hebrews passage says above it is impossible to please God without faith, because first of all if you do not believe in God you will not come to him; and again this is an act of the Holy Spirit within you. The second part of the Hebrews passages when it says that God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him, it sounds like it has to do with seeking a gift of God. Actually in the Greek what it means is, that it is faith that causes the seeker to come to God knowing that that act of faith will be rewarded by God in God responding in granting grace – God’s unmerited favor, by accepting them as a child of his, and also displaying mercy and forgiving not only a singular sin, but every sin that the center will ever do.
This is why faith is so important.
Faith is not necessarily believing that God will give us what we ask them for. Faith is trusting him that even when it doesn’t look like it, when things are terrible; God is still in control of our lives. This takes real faith, which is why many Christians don’t grow into Christian maturity.
There stuck on the idea of getting what they asked for.
Rather than understanding that faith is actually a relationship.
If you cannot trust your wife you sleep with one eye open.
If you cannot trust your business partner your always checking the books.
If you grow up never being able to trust your parents is it any wonder your paranoid.
You see faith is just not a singular act it’s a way of life.
It establishes the relationship that God is my father and I put my trust in him.
This is where the confidence is built up.
As the Romans 10:17 passage says, we get confidence from God’s word; from seeing all that he is said and done and knowing that he is behind this word which I can stand on. This is why the Bible is so important is it is the tool that can solidifies – hardens our faith into something more than mental belief.
We get confidence because time after time we see that God takes care of us, on the Experiential side.
Therefore, we need to concentrate on growing faith in our life – in trusting him in every aspect no matter how bad it may look.
This is why Romans 8:28 states:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
It is hard to understand but in the Greek this is not saying that everything is good that happens at the time it happens.
How could it be good for those that were martyred and burned at the stake for Christ at the time they were being burned up, it was not good at that moment.
Yet as they entered into God’s kingdom as martyrs who died for Jesus Christ, the Bible says they receive a special crown, a special position in God’s kingdom because of their faith in him even though he allowed them to be burnt up.
You see the things work together for the good of them that love God, that are called according to his purpose – eventually.
It is not an immediate gratification kind of thing, which is why the world is so reluctant to have anything to do with Jesus Christ.
He wins by losing.
He won ownership of the world by dying.
He displayed faith beyond any human even though he was all human in all of God, a mystery which we shouldn’t even attempt to explain.
Yet on his human side he was willing to die for the sins of the world and to be spiritually separated from God on the cross as the sins of the world were placed upon him, and God could not look upon sin – it says that Jesus became sin, and he was separated from the father.
His statements on the cross, “father why have you forsaken me” was spoken in the native tongue of Aramaic, yet it was not a question to God; he knew the answer.
It was a statement that he spoke just after the centurion stated that truly he was a godly man.
Jesus made this statement because this should have been what the people that were sitting at his feet watching him die, should’ve been asking themselves.
Why would a righteous God, condemn a righteous man.
The answer is because this righteous man was his son, who was God giving up his powers, to fulfill the will of God the father by dying for the sins of the world.
At that moment as he was separated from the father it did not feel good. I don’t think we could ever understand how terrible that was, much worse than the beating.
Yet he trusted that God would resurrect him back to the place of his deity in heaven.
You see this is why faith is so important, it is the essence of everything that is to be Christian.
And the fact that you are so concerned about God, or should I say Jesus Christ in particular; this displays the holy spirits in you, and is an act of faith by being willing to examine this thing that is so painful to you. You didn’t run from God, you ran to God when you were worried.
And faith is the reason I’ve spent so much time communicating with you.
I do this because I act in faith attempting to please the father.

Interesting, so as a christian I can’t lose my salvation that god promised and also….I just vocalized and verbalized one of my thoughts that I didn’t agree with and I acted in a way to try to rebuke those thoughts with my toungue (and i wasnt trying to impower them but try to strike them down and show jesus my faith by proving those thoughts false) jesus knew my intent therefore i wasnt speaking against the spirit?….(because I didn’t lie to myself and to others in an attempt to oppose our lord like those pharisees did)

Okay, I have my faith in god and I believe in his word and your understanding of his word! I can’t tell you how much of a blessing you have been…but lastly the only way to commit that sin is to physically say those things to jesus as he performed works and lie to him and the people around him in order to keep your rank in the religious community. In order to commit that sin you have to lie to yourself and and others by teaching and speaking bad about the lord in your own FALSE ministry? So that’s what he meant by whoever speaks a word AGAINST the holy spirit? and that’s why they felt no guilt because they planned on turning their back on our god and lieing about jesus to further their FALSE ministry smh (makes me sick just thinking about the pharisees!) What you have said is right on correct – 100%. I know that when I say such things I fear God and do not speak without full faith in what I am saying – you are fine – God is faithful to His Word – 1 John 1:9, says; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Yet I find no sin in this situation – and if you did, you have confessed it. Do you think I might have accidently commited that sin in anyway by posting the question on the internet and asking for help outof worry that I might have commited it? It says that the sin is to openly slander, did I do that by accident (via internet by posting my question)? The devil has me worried and I shall pray about it, your thoughts?

I know you love Jesus – But the problem is you feel shame when you should not. I have a feeling that the real issue is you feel shame and you are trying to figure out why, and this occurrence seems to you to be why. But don’t you feel shame often? I do. Some of us know what sinners we are, we know what trouble things we think – we are shame based. If you are this way too, then you must do what the rest of us do. Refuse to be lead by your shame – take God at His word, His son paid for every sin that you have committed, and will commit as well. How many sins did Christ die for in your life 2000 years ago – all of them. In fact He knew everything you would ever do and he still chose you. So you cannot not let Him down, in His foreknowledge He knows it all. You must fight the voices in your head. Have you repented – yes! Then hold onto His word, and not your feelings. Did you read my article on the “Heart and mind,” if not read it – it is important to understand the difference between your emotions/feelings and your mind. bb

This is what I felt I was trying to do!!! But I believe I shouldn’t have spoken out what I said, I wasn’t trying to stand against god and I was trying to make a fool out of the devil with gods truth, I still can’t get over what I said sadly. I believe everything I know according to God’s word that you did not commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit – I’m not soft peddling or making excuses for you. You did not do this sin.
You see even if people get mad at God and say something negative about the Holy Spirit that is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
It’s whenever they’re talking to a group of people and they know they’re lying about the Holy Spirit and they don’t care that their life.
The very fact that you care about this indicates that you didn’t do it.
Those who commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit do it intentionally, knowing that they’re lying and deceiving people, and do it with no intention of changing their mind because they have made up their mind that this present world is more important than God and eternity to them.
You see this is why a believer can’t do this sin, if he is truly a believer.
The person must intentionally do it.
They must intentionally lie about the Holy Spirit know that they are lying, so if someone said something against the Holy Spirit in anger believing it to be true, this would not be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit – this would simply be of sin that is forgivable.
A father who gets mad at God for taking his new baby away, and tells the Holy Spirit “you are mean and hateful,” and this is said in angry and pain; then comes back to himself – is sane again (like Peter when he cursed and denied Christ 3 times, then became sane again), and repeats (as a true child of God would), he is forgiven.
It is when people lie intentionally about the Holy Spirit and don’t care about the consequences, they don’t care about God or what He said about this particular sin, they continue to do it anyway; and in the process show that they’re not a child of God.
You see we can Even get mad at God and this is forgivable.
This is not the same as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31), which is to slander the Holy Spirit – Knowingly lying about him, without fear of consequence and holding onto this deception in order for personal gain – this is what the Pharisees did, and this is what you did not do.
As a child of God we are to repent of all of our sins, in complete confidence that God will forgive us.
You see the Pharisees were not believers, though they had Said prior to this that they knew that Jesus had come from the father because no man did the miracles that Jesus did.
You see the Pharisees were unbelievers that knew that Jesus was of God because they said so, and in spite of this knowledge that he was from God and was doing things according to the Holy Spirit they lied and said that he was doing miracles in the power of Satan because it affected their standing in the community.
They were the ones that gave outlaws and reinterpreted the Old Testament to bring people into bondage.
And to have Jesus teach against what they were teaching affected their standing in the community as well as their position and therefore their income level.
So when they knowingly lied about the Holy Spirit, they did not care about the consequences because they were not believers.
They were not convicted of the Holy Spirit because they did not care. Believers care.
You care.
Therefore, except what God’s word says concerning God for giving your sins as the prior Scriptures that I sent to you.

Wow…and I assume that…. I said what I said in the form of a question (to blasphemy thoughts in my head) and told people that I reponded to those thoughts with the truth…which was that I said he used the holy spirit. I believe you and I certainly believe gods word, I know that I couldn’t have commited this sin because the holy spirit dwells within me and is what is drawing me to god… and I know its the holy spirit that had been drawing me to read the bible regularly since that day.. thank you brent my brother in christ :)

So I must not let my emotions guide me like you mentioned before…I wasn’t aware that I might have been commiting the sin when I came to people with my problem ….the holyspirit convicted me and actually led me to the truth and I thank god for that…and I believe I didnt commit the sin, and if I did accidently as a christian the holy spirit convicts us of sin so we can go to god and hell forgive us if we are honest with him…so I have covered myself with jesus(god), god and the holy spirit (the whole Trinity) :) I trust god and i believe that I have nothing to worry about as long as I keep my eyes on jesus and let him be my guide!

Hello its me again…I recently saw that in my first post which was to yahoo answers conserning my concern of this sin. I see that the people who read may have gotten a misinterpreted message (which is my fault because it was my first post and I was hysterical at that point and afraid that I may have accidentally commited the unforgivable sin….This was days before I met you and received the truth of what commiting that sin actually was, I went to yahoo and read what I wrote (in my first post) and I just got a sick feeling because I couldn’t believe how wrecklessly I worded the question . I was unaware that speaking in a forum like that could be committing the sin, I was scared and I AT FIRST failed to mention to them all the details like I mentioned in your forum I even forgot to tell them I am a Christian (which i am), that’s why I calmed down and thought about what I said and ended up posting the question the was posted on this forum…but before I got to that point I had asked the question in a manner that I feel was worded wrecklessly and I could barely sleep last night I called yahoo and sent an email to the support team but they say its noway I can delete the post from the internet. ..do you think I accidentally spoke against the spirit to these people?, I am so worried…here is the link http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20140105085946AAzNQG0

No, it just sounds like you’re confused and having a hard time expressing yourself. Remember, I have spent hours Talking to you about this subject and I am perfectly aware more than the people that would be reading that forum of the situation. I have no doubt that you did not commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, it is a special sin that can only be committed in the presence of Jesus when you accuse him of doing a miracle which is done by the Holy Spirit in the power of Satan.
Remember it is slander – slander is to knowingly lie about someone and not care about the consequences. This is why it is unforgivable, you can’t accidentally do it. And you did not do it. And retelling the story doesn’t make it any different. You might not be able to erase What you said on that forum, but the good news is when you confess it to Christ and ask him to cover it with his blood, it is erased in his mind; and that’s what’s important.
If anybody contacts you concerning those words, simply tell them that you’ve dealt with it; you’ve sought wise counsel which is explained the situation and it’s okay.
Do not waste any time trying to reexplain yourself – if you do, then The evil one’s henchmen get you back occupied on that subject that you need to stay away from.
Do not reenter the situation.
You may not be able to erase what was said, you don’t have to; God did for you.

your right I certainly was confused….NOT with my faith in jesus and my belief in him. but I was very confused about what that sin was and how it is commited. i panicked and only told the story with most of the details left out of what had happened… and thanks to my bad grammer it sounded like i wasnt a true believer (i believe i am a true believer and a christian!!! ) ….you say that I didn’t make things worse by retailing the story, and since you know more on that topic then I. ill move on and I have already asked jesus to forgive me of my ignorance of not understanding that sin fully.. thank you :)…so you cant commit that sin by asking about it the way I did? you have to lie about him in his physical form here on earth… I was completely unaware I could have been making my situation worse at the time I posted that question seeking help…can I even claim ignorance in that situation?

I think I understand the situation more clearly now!…so if anything the situation I explained at its worse would have been blaspheme against jesus (which is forgiveable) ….And blasphemy against the holy spirit is not forgivable because the Pharisees took jesus out of the equation. They attacked the power of a specific miracle in which the credit was rightfully due to the Holy spirit! but they LIED and gave the credit to that specific miracle to the devil. the lie was against the power of the holy spirit directly…and even though jesus was involved it was more that they attacked the source of the power that was used by jesus and lied and said that power was evil….
so if someone lied and said OUT OF ALL CONTEXT that jesus used a evil power its forgiveable? (im not sure, i need you to clarifie if this is correct).. BUT if they LIE and speak of a PARTICULAR miracle that they KNOW was done by the power of the holy spirit through jesus, and LIE and say that the power used in that MIRACLE wasn’t from god….then that is blasphemy against the spirit? do I have it right :)?

For the child of God there are no coincidences in life.
The only value/quality that pleases God is faith, because He desires our trust – He has the ability and desire to protect and guide those that are His children having become His children because we trust Him – some might say this is circular reasoning.
However, scientist say that the perfect shape is a circle; do you see the circle in reasoning regarding faith and God?
For God it begins and finishes with faith, for us it begins and finishes with Jesus who made it possible for us to become children of God by faith.
Heb_11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
It is our faith that is pleasing to God. If you do a word study on the word please, you’ll find that God twice used it when speaking of Jesus, when He spoke from heaven at Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:17) and at the amount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:2-5).
The third time that God spoke from heaven is recorded in John 12:28, when Jesus stated “father glorify thy name,” with God the Father audibly replying I have glorified it in will glorify it. They were speaking about the resurrection.
The first two times that God speaks from heaven He declares that Jesus has pleased Him, which should be connected with Hebrews 11:6. And this third time that God speaks from heaven He declares that He will display how Jesus pleased him by the resurrection.
The point in all of this is as children of God it is our honor and responsibility to maintain a pleasing lifestyle before God by constantly displaying faith in Him, especially when things make no sense.
It is glorious when those times occur that we can see that God’s hand is moving in our life connecting us with people, putting us in situations where we can communicate His word to others, knowing that it is God that has chosen to use us.
It is also thrilling that God answers our questions in our life by bringing us in touch with those with answers.
This also displays that we are children of God, in that He would go to this extent to make sure that we are not only saved, but that we have confidence in that salvation and need not fear.
He wants us confident not in our own ability, but in His ability and desire to take care of us and guide us.
It has been my pleasure and always will be when and if God chooses to use me, because He is used many people in my life when I have questions.

Hello. I’ve read your article, and I wanted to ask if I may have committed this sin. Not to long ago, I was praying to God about the time I thought of something negative of the Holy Spirit. I said to God that this bad thought came from my brain. But just after I said that a thought came into my head that if the the Holy Spirit did make me think this thought the I would be committing blasphemy . So out of intense fear I stupidly blurted out “I suppose there is a chance the Holy Spirit made me think this thought”. I immeaditly realized the horrible thing that I just said. Is there any way I may not have committed this sin.

You did NOT commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
It must be intentional, you cannot do it accidentally, or by weird thoughts; it is not a thought, it is an action.
It is the action of knowingly lying about the Holy Spirit – it is slandering the Holy Spirit.
Slander is to intentionally lie with evil intents.
And the person doing it must know that the person that they are lying about is in reality doing a work of the Holy Spirit.
All humans are sinful, therefore how do you know that a person who says he is doing miracles in the Holy Spirit real is – you don’t.
The only person who was without sin was Jesus, therefore when the Pharisees, who had said that they knew that they knew Jesus was from God the Father, then when He did a miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit, and it made them look bad, and effected their egos, they knowingly lied about who was behind the power in order to save face – they knew they were lying.
You do not fit into any of this.
ALL sin is forgivable to the child of God, who cannot do this sin because the Holy Spirit lives in them.
It is life me saying that I am dead while there is life in me, I would not do that, and if I did it would make no sense because I am alive.
The Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit in you is what makes you a child of God – Spiritually alive, so why would you say something to deny what your whole is now dedicated to now – being a Child of God – a follower of Christ who died for you, you would not, at least intentionally, and slander must be done intentionally, it is an intentionally lie against the Holy Spirit in order to defame Him.
Do not waste your time with this; spend your time learning and worshipping God by spending time in His Word – and exercising faith by totally trusting in Him.
Can He keep what is His?
Remember Jesus’ words when He prayed about us:

I am a Christian Universalist which means I believe blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven. And so because I believe that blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven I therefore believe ALL go to Heaven. I am not a unitarian.

I would ask that you thoroughly read the article, maybe even a couple of times to grasp what it is saying. Number one, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is not a thought process.
Jesus Christ taught on this subject – one time.
There are no other Scriptures that teach on this subject no matter what people try to do to attempt to say so by addressing the sin on the death, which is something totally different based upon the context in the Greek grammar, as well as sins under death and a few other passages, which again have nothing to do with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is very precise and what he states concerning this sin which is unforgivable.
It wasn’t out word lie where the person that committed it new that they were lying which is referred to legally as slander, this is what the word blasphemy means.
To commit blasphemy you must knowingly lie about someone else, it cannot be done accidentally – nor can it be a thought process it is something that according to Jesus was very particular when the Pharisees committed it against the Holy Spirit – it was done in public in front of other people in order to mislead the people into following the Pharisees – this is not a thought process.
If God is perfect then he is also exact – meaning you need just get into the details, otherwise you’re not dealing with what God addresses as God always it addresses the details which reflect his perfection.
The details of this case are that the Pharisees, who had prior to this as listed in another gospel had acknowledge that Jesus was the anointed Messiah of Israel based upon the miracles they did when they said no man has done this except one that has come from God – so they believe that Jesus was doing these miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Yet at a later point when Jesus did a miracle on the Sabbath which defied their teaching and brought into question their own authority, They did not care about God, The only cared about their position and stature within the community as religious leaders Wherein they openly knowingly lied about the Holy Spirit who was doing the miracles at Jesus request.
Jesus was completely 100% full of the Holy Spirit which occurred when he was baptized when he started his ministry. They acknowledge that he was doing miracles in the power of God which is synonymous with the power of the Holy Spirit who is God – they did not have a complete understanding concerning the Trinity, though the use of Elohim in the plural noun was common – yet what they did know is that God was the one doing the miracles at Jesus hands.
Knowing this and bearing that they would lose their standing in the community they knowingly lied about what Jesus was doing and who was at the root of the miracle, which was God.
You see it’s not that they accidentally did something that they could not repent of – it was that they openly chose to do something that they did not want to repent of.
You see it is unforgivable to do something when you refuse to repent and turn to God.
We are not simply say because God forgives us – we must turn to him, and repent.
Repentance means to change ones mind so completely that it changes the direction of our life and what we do, it is not simply being sorry for something.
If you remember that after Judas betrayed Christ he expressed sorrow so great that he took his own life, yet this was not repentance which leads to salvation.
He walked with Christ For three years and never committed himself to the following Christ from his heart – his choice was always to do in his own way rather than repenting and turning 180° and following Christ and doing things his way – we call this salvation.
We do not receive salvation as a trade for faith, that would be bartering and then we would be earning our salvation based upon the trade.
Ephesians 2:8 states that we are saved by grace – grace is God’s unmerited favor, yet to have access to God’s unmerited favor we must do something – we must exercise faith in the process and in God’s ability and desire to save us, this is referred to as repentance – it involves a changing of our minds that is so complete that it changes are behaviors and in the process we are willing to forsake our own will for God’s will – again because we have faith in him that he can do a better job in our lives than we ourselves.
You see when we Repent we just don’t stop being sinners, We don’t stop thinking sinful thoughts.
What we do do is come to Christ asking and believing in his forgiveness based upon him taking our place and paying for our sins.
Salvation is a legal process.
You see God is righteous, and a righteous judge cannot merely show mercy and place of righteousness.
Righteousness demands that there is punishment for violations of the law – and God’s law demands that sin earns death.
For God to be merciful and just the only way that he could do it was that the penalty of our sin would be transferred to another so that the justice of God would be fulfilled.
Jesus paid our price, This is what graces – he did for us what we could not do for ourselves – and the way that we access this grace is to simply place our trust in him as our Savior, but also our Lord. You see faith demands that we stop trusting ourselves and start trusting God.
The fact that you have weird thoughts don’t have anything to do with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
I get all kinds of weird thoughts – sometimes as I’m driving on a mountainous road where there are cliffs on the side without railing, I get the thought what would it be like to drive as fast as you can over the side of the cliff looking down at thousand feet as you would be dieing, knowing that you couldn’t do anything to stop the consequences of that decision – I’ve thought about that many times in my life.
I thought about what it would be like to jump off the side of the building that was 30 stories high, realizing all the time that you were falling that you could not undo that decision.
I get strange thoughts, we all get strange thoughts – we all get evil thoughts, all we have to do is man is look at a woman; and Jesus talks about this type of sexual desire that comes about in our thinking process – which is sin.
But the point of all this is that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with our thought processes.
When we come to Christ And we confess our sins he forgives all of our sins – all of them, not all of them up to that date but all of them for ever.
Let me ask you something, how many of your sins were yet in the future when Christ died for them 2000 years ago – all of them.
When he died for your sins on the tree he died for every one of them which includes the ones that you haven’t done yet.
1 John 1:9 speaks about Christ being faithful To forgive us for sins that we confess – the topic of this Scripture is not salvation – It has to do with our daily walk in how we separate ourselves from the world in our own sinfulness in order to be separated to God for his own purposes.
It is synonymous with when the priest, after having sacrifice sins at the altar of sacrifice, before going into the holy of holy in meeting with God, they had to go to the water of Laver and and Wash their feet and hands, But why since it already sacrificed for their sins.
The reason why is that once we are saved we are not sinless, and the feet always represent Where we go in life and what we do – hence Jesus always said follow me, hence Jesus had towards the Disciples feet before anointing them for service on the night he was betrayed.
The hands are always synonymous with what we do when life based upon our individual choices – so when the tabernacle Instructions concerning the priest meeting with God in the holy of holy, before that they had to sacrifice at the brazen altar for their sins, then they had to go to the water laver, Which was made out of the looking glass is that the Egyptians brought out of Egypt indicating that this Laver was reflective and held water. They would bow down and see themselves and Wash their dirty feet And dirty hands before going on to meet God.
I know this sounds deep but my point is, 1 John 1:9 is not talking about salvation – so many of misunderstood this which is why the Catholic Church and many others teach if someone commits suicide they go to hell because they cannot repent of that sin after they do it.
Paul teaches that no man that is Sane harms his body – And would God condemn a believer who destroys his body when he is insane.
You see we are not believers because we repent of every individual sin, and yes David did declare and ask God to forgive him of unknown sin but this was not about David salvation, this was about David’s relationship with God.
We are not saved by asking for forgiveness – we are saved by faith in Christ taking our place at the cross.
So it becomes important to understand what 1 John 1:9 is talking about – it’s not talking about salvation.
Salvation is where a person becomes a child of God – they change their relationship with God it is not a single decision, made 1000 times in order to fulfill a contract – where repentance, or asking to be forgiven of sin is traded for salvation – this is silly.
Salvation Is provided by God’s grace – his unmerited favor, which to have access to we must exercise faith – yet a particular faith that God only will God take care of us, but that he has taken care of our paternal lives by forgiving us by exercising that they. Faith that it was Jesus Christ that took my place – this is what saves us, not some ritual of confessing sins as the Catholics of taught.
You see when you deal with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, you’re dealing with people that knew that Christ was the anointed of God but had not lived in faith trusting him.
They trusted in their own ability and position in life as religious leaders.
They could not be saved because they refused to be saved and allow God to control their life by trusting in God.
This is a long answer because you need to understand what salvation is more than you need to understand this particular sin.
So many people misunderstand salvation, this is why I have explained it in such detail.
Once you become a child of God by trusting in him – not only a confession of the mouth but a believing in your heart that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead because God had done so (As stated in Romans 10:9), You will see there are two parts to how to be saved – Believing in your heart, and confessing with your mouth.
You see we must believe in our hearts to the extent that we trust God for our lives and our salvation, and then tell the world that he is our God.
You see of we simply believe in our heart – have a mental thought, yet are not willing to commit our lives were people see that we have chosen him because we confess him – the Scripture says that he would also be ashamed of us.
Salvation is a change in relationship – you go from an individual un-regenerated – heading for hell, to a child of God.
And once you become a child of God you don’t go back again. It isn’t something you jump into or jump out of.
Read the book of Ephesians – God for saw you when I that he had chosen as his own before the foundations of the earth and chose us then to respond to him in faith.
It’s a complicated subject, but the point is when you’re saved you become a child of God – Jesus said your born again – tell me what does a child have to do with its own birth – nothing, it is the parents that come together to produce the child.
At what point the prodigal son stop being the prodigal son – when he lived in the world and acted like the world – no, when he came back to his senses and went back to his father’s house – No. You see he was always the prodigal son – he was always a son of his father that never changed even when he stopped acting like it.
When a person becomes a born-again believer it’s not based upon their own intellect to choose, it is based upon spiritual side where the Holy Spirit allows us to perceive the reality of God and we respond in faith – it’s not about Calvin or Arminianism, it’s about God giving us spiritual eyes – and God making as his children.
You can’t lose that.
So if you are believer stop worrying about the unforgivable sin – stop worrying about your thought life concerning salvation.
There are plenty of other Scriptures which talk about taking your mind captive, and refusing to listen to those thoughts by focusing your mind.
At this point I’ve spent enough time and you need to continue on – get a Bible concordance, and look up the word “mind,” and “thought”; and find the New Testament passages related to these words and do what God’s word says to do.
If you are truly a child of God, then walk like one – spend the time in God’s word to understand what you are to do.
You think that all that I’ve presented to you is stuff that I have uncovered myself.
I had to make the commitment of time and resources – but it is the Holy Spirit that is our teacher – but he will not teach us in less we humble ourselves and look into his book – the Bible for the answers concerning life’s problems.
Your problem is not if you committed the unpardonable sin – blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, your problem is you don’t know God’s word.
Seek out a teacher who does, use this website if you desire, but find someone who really knows God’s word, and can help you as you go through God’s word.

Andrew that is an excellent question, one I’ve never been asked before.
The Bible does not distinguish between any classification of sins, such as a type of sin.
Where some may refer to as the thought of having sex with a woman as a sensual type of sin, this is not actually found within the Bible.
Now the Jews did classify sins within the Torah, especially as seen in the book of Leviticus, yet we find this absent in any of Jesus or Paul’s teaching.
Probably the best explanation is the Definition of the word itself.
The Greek word for sin is Hamartia, And literally means “To fall short.” It was originally used as an athletic term within archery.
The idea is that there is either perfection, or non-perfection, there is either right or there was wrong, but nothing in between.
You either do it or you don’t do it but there’s no classification of how well you do it, because to do anything less than that which is perfect is incomplete and unacceptable.
In archery, there was either the bull’s-eye, which was the size of the arrow, or there was everything outside of it – hence, “to miss the mark.”
The idea was that there is not one thing better about hitting the nine ring, then the eight ring, if you’re not hitting the 10 ring you are missing the mark.
God was trying to communicate that anything less than His own Perfection is sin and falling short.
This is where we get the idea within the church that all sin is the same to God, based upon the words that He chose to communicate concerning sin.
God wanted us to understand that almost doesn’t get you there.
That His perfection is not obtainable as far as being close to achieving.
He is so far beyond us that nothing we do can achieve a lack of sin and therefore perfection – wherein He is perfection, and to judge yourself anything less than sinful when you are not perfect, is a sin in itself.
Now we do know that God treats sin differently – that there is actually a difference concerning the severity of a sin.
It would be unjust and immoral to state that all sin is on the same scale of severity, that my grandmother Lying to me and telling me I was a handsome child is on the same scale as Hitler committing genocide by killing millions of Jews.
God is a righteous judge, And a righteous judge deals out punishment based upon severity.
But that is not what God was attempting to communicate whenever we deal with the subject of sin In regards to the fact that any sin can be downplayed as small and therefore considered in significant, He wanted to communicate that falling short; rather an inch, or a mile, was still falling short and therefore sin.
You see sin in itself, rather we consider it small or large is so reprehensible to God that the only way to satisfy his justice in punishing sin was to crucify his own son who is completely innocent – this is because of how Powerful sin is.
The last thing that Jesus set on the cross was, “father why have you forsaken me.”
We must understand this was not a question that Jesus was asking because he didn’t know the answer.
This was a statement that he was making that the people should’ve been contemplating.
Because we know from the other Gospels when ever Jesus had asked God to forgive them for they knew not what they did, and the Roman centurion declared that truly Jesus was a righteous man, then Jesus proposes this question that they should have been asking him, those that stood at his feet.
This is the question of the age concerning Christianity:
Why would God kill a righteous man – why would God Kill his own son – the answer is because sin is just that bad, and sins that are committed within our thought process are not any different.
The problem is humans always attempt to rationalize our sin, to downplay it as not severe, and saying that it was just a thought sin is one of those rationalizations – but God will hear nothing of it.
Sins within our thoughts may seem to be small, but let me give you an illustration of why they are not.
The very first sin committed was committed by Satan before his fall when he was referred to as Lucifer.
Lucifer literally means “Morning Star” (Though he is referred to as “son of the morning”), meaning that he was the first (Hence the use of the word “morning”) of God’s creation that was beautiful (As the sun), And great as seen in the illumination of the sun – the greatest of our stars.
Yet when ever he sinned God changed his name to Satan, which means “adversary” as he became the adversary of God, who was also the accuser of mankind
By pointing out the sin of mankind, accusing the brethren, this was a type of condescension wherein Lucifer was attempting to rationalize his own sin by the greater sin of others, which again would be a reason why God points out that having sinned less, is not the same of being sinless.
Concerning this first sin by Lucifer the Scripture states:
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” ~ Isaiah 14:12-15
What you will notice is that The first sin ever committed even before the existence of man, was a thought sin – it was what Lucifer told himself he was going to do.
He did not physically do anything, he merely entertained the thought upon the sinful premise that he would become greater than God.
He became so full of himself that he thought upon, and considered true the idea that because of the great power that God had given him, he was worthy of worship and was greater than God because he was doing God’s work.
Now we come to understand why those that are ministers have such great opportunity at failure.
The word minister means “to serve,” yet Professional ministry is the type of service where one is seen out above others in such a way because of their leadership that they stand out and are therefore prone to the possibility of becoming proud and arrogant.
That’s why it is so noteworthy that the first sin was the sin of pride.
Pride is the foundation of every sin. Pride is self-centeredness, and every sin that we ever do is based upon self-centeredness – pride is the foundation of every sin, and seen in every sin man ever commits.
Lucifer was God’s right hand man and did the mighty works that God had told him to do, but he forgot that it was God that had empowered him to complete them, that it was God working through him – therefore he became proud and lifted up in his own thinking.
This is why those of us that attempt to call ourselves ministers must always remember that it is God that is working through us, and not we ourselves, otherwise we will start to fall into temptation of the greatest sin ever perpetrated in existence, the sin that Lucifer committed himself, a sin of entertaining thoughts that are against God’s will, thoughts of self exaltation.
If you want a simple definition of sin, it is anything that is against God’s will – it is anything that falls short of His perfection, “it is missing the mark,” Even if it seems a simple as a mere thought that is held onto and maintained.

No, there many types, as I said pride. Also envy, jealousy, anger, planning sin; and more. That is if you dwell on these things. If you get a thought which seems evil and refuse to dwell on it, it is not sin. You must hold onto it to be sinning – there is a difference between getting a momentary thought, and holding onto it in contemplation. Yet, all are forgivable, if you ask. bb

If you can write a letter or send an email, keep it simple, no excuses, express yourself without blaming others of them, say you were wrong and ask them to forgive you.
If you cannot find them, then you cannot ask forgiveness, it is not your fault.
The main thing when you sin, ask God for forgiveness –
Psalms 51:4 says:
“Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
The idea is not that you don’t owe the person we harm an apology, but that all sin is mainly against God, so confessing ii Him – this is the main thing.
Pray and work to maintain an attitude of humility and confess sins ASAP.
Practice admitting you are wrong, it becomes easier the more you do it.

No. It is human to test God, and as any sin forgivable.
Andrew you need to stop the questions, I mean stop entertaining the questions in your mind and simply trust God – I don’t mind the questions, but it does you no good – when it is all said and done, it all gets back to trusting God.

You know one day a man approached Jesus and called him good master then posed a question. Jesus responded by saying why do you call me good, only God is good.
The point that Jesus was making was that the man did not fully realize that Jesus was God, so Jesus pose this question to him.
You see man Likes to use adjectives, better, best, good, fine, acceptable, unacceptable. This is good because it fills in detail concerning the subject matter.
But the negative side of this is that man always looks for the gray, it is not just that there is black and there is white, man always wants to find the medium between the two, by nature man is uncomfortable with the prospect of absolute truths.
Do you remember what Pontius Pilate said when he asked Jesus, “what is truth.”
I believe because of the inborn desire for freedom man doesn’t like to be hemmed in, hence the use of adjectives fit into our world for the benefit of details, but I think also for the comfort of freedom.
Now back to the story of Jesus. Jesus was making the point that there is either good or evil, there isn’t almost good, or almost evil.
We have to be aware that Jesus was talking about one man remarking to another man that he was good. Yet we were all as men born into sin and therefore incapable of good, the book of Romans teaches us this that none of us seek God, none of us seek righteousness.
So if this man was calling Jesus good thinking that Jesus was another man, it was completely inappropriate, it displayed a misunderstanding of humanity, Of the fact that man was fallen.
So Jesus points out that there is only good and evil, and that only God is good, and in comparison men are evil.
Now the greater point here has to do with the fact that the man did not recognize that Jesus was a son of God, that he too was sinless as his father,
So when you asked me if it is okay to call the Holy Spirit good, my answer is of course.
The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, he is God. It’s unusual dealing with the Holy Spirit because why he functions he does not draw attention to himself.
It might be good for you to study John chapters 14 through 16, these tell us an awful lot about the Holy Spirit.
While there are times that the neuter form of the grammar is used concerning the Holy Spirit, this is done to make a point concerning that particular usage; whereas overall the male form of grammar is used in reference to him – he is male, and he has personality.
He can be grieved, Therefore he can Feel feelings; This is a function of personage, of individualism – this tells us, as well as many other Scriptures that the Holy Spirit is not some ghostly aberration, but that the Holy Spirit is a person.
He is very unusual from what we normally Deal with, in that part of his role is to be a communication between God and man in the form of indwelling his children.
Anybody that says that they can explain this in any kind of detail, is displaying pride as how can a limited man explain an immortal God – we can’t we just have to take with the Bible says about him as fact.
The Holy Spirit is God’s hands and feet on the earth doing God’s will.
So back to your question, now I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling the Holy Spirit good.
If your beer is that it is said in a way that is Negative, all you need to do is study about the Holy Spirit.
You see God can use this very question in your life to cause you to look for the answer, and as I said the best place that I know of is to turn to the book of John, chapters 14 through 16.
There are many places in the New Testament that give us insights into the Holy Spirit.
All you need to do is to get a concordance.
A concordance is a massive book that list every word in the Bible. So you can look up the word holy, and then see those places that it is combined with spirit, and look up those individual Scriptures wherein you will gain knowledge about the Holy Spirit.
You see you and I have talked long and hard about the Holy Spirit, but I think it may be best if you come to understand on your own level who the Holy Spirit is in what his role is.
His role is to do God’s will and when Christ walked on the earth, he was totally 100% filled with the Holy Spirit which was the power of God to do miracles, have divine insights, and to do those things which God did; as Christ was dwelling in an earthly body at that time.
If you remember the subject of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit had to do with the fact that Jesus had cured someone on the Sabbath, a religious day of the Jews.
And that it was a Holy Spirit that did the miracle, which again brought up the subject of those Pharisees, those religious leaders; knowingly lying about Jesus working in the power of the Holy Spirit, and lying in saying that Jesus was working in the power of the devil; whereas before they had announced that they knew that Jesus was of God, therefore they knew that the Holy Spirit or the spirit of God was doing the miracle through Jesus.
You can’t accidentally do what they did!
And you can’t do it by thinking it!
You can’t do it by even saying to someone that they are doing a miracle in the power of the devil – because they may be.
We are told in the last day that Satan will disguise himself as an angel of light, and the same with his minions – it talks about the book of Revelation faults miracles that are meant to deceive the elect, which is a term for believers.
So we see that Satan attempts to mimic miracles which in the case of Jesus were done by the Holy Spirit himself.
You see the reason why I don’t believe that you can commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is that if you come into a situation, exactly as what occurred would Jesus; and someone does a miracle and says it’s of God, you don’t know if that’s true or not – I don’t care if it’s somebody that you really believe is functioning in the power of God or not, he is a man and subject to sin; and as a Scripture tell us he could be a deceiver – so how can you know 100% that the miracle that he does is in the power of God through the Holy Spirit, or through the power of Satan as in the book of revelations meant to deceive people – the answer is you don’t!
The point is we walk in the knowledge we have which should be based upon God’s word. If someone does a miracle we need to a value weight that on the basis of who it is, what is done, but most importantly what God’s word has to say about the situation.
This is why I say to quit worrying about if you committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because of a weird thought you had.
If you have a weird thought and you know what sin, the Bible very simply states that you confess it as a child of God, and he will always forgive it.
One last point.
The Pharisees did not care that they had lied about the Holy Spirit and the miracle that Jesus did.
Because they did not care they did not repent and refused to therefore confess it as sin – how can it be forgiven if they do not confess and asked for forgiveness – it can’t.
You see this is a sin that is done incomplete knowledge with no desire of repenting of turning back to God.
It’s synonymous with the idea of any man that understands what salvation is and who God is, and refuses to commit his life and trust God in faith to save him.
God does not make us do anything.
Some man can choose to walk away from him and refuse his gift of salvation, that’s what these Pharisees were doing in their lives.
They were more concerned with the present world that they lived in, they were concerned that Jesus was making them look like fools because he was violating what they said was the law, they were concerned about their stature in that community, they were concerned about their position in front of men.
What they were not concerned about was God and the eternity of where they would spend it – any man that is ashamed of God, any man that does not care about God, any man that cares more about today and looking good in front of men, then they care about pleasing God will go to hell – it is their choice.
The Pharisees made this choice when they had previously acknowledge that Jesus was of God, and yet did this sin incomplete knowledge of what it meant to turn their back upon God.
So don’t worry – be happy (ha ha).
Hopefully this is given you the answer to this question –
What I would like to see you do is do the work yourself concerning this issue, and get into God’s word – read John 14-16.
In fact Andrew let me put it this way, I could keep feeding you by answering your questions, but you need to feed yourself.
So the next time you pose a question I’m going to ask you if you read these three chapters, and I will not answer any more questions and till you have open God’s word and read it for yourself. You need to do this

I have read what you had to say but I’m not sure. A little while ago I was going through a really hard time so I prayed to God that I can’t do it by myself any more. It may not seem like much but I think I have blasphemy the Holy Spirit because I feel that this I saying that the Holy Spirit wasn’t helping me. I said sorry to God but I don’t think it will help please tell me I did not commit this sin.

I know this is long but you need to read all of it – and think about what I’m saying.
Concerning your definition of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit –
No, Your answer is not correct, though it sounds like it.
Unfortunately there are many preachers and teachers that don’t do their job very well.
You see the New Testament was written in the Greek language, referred to as koine Greek.
We get our word “coin” from this same Greek word .
The word koine actually means “common,” as in money having a “common value.”
It sounds confusing but the koine Greek, is a reference to what is referred to as the “common Greek” that was spoke at the time of Jesus within the area that he lived.
Many teachers teach Only out of the English Bible using English words, which many times are not equivalent or close to what the original Greek is.
This is what a Bible teacher should do is go back to the original language when there is a disagreement between the Greek and the English.
The Greek word for “blasphemy” actually means “to slander.”
In the English the word “slander” has the meaning of speaking against someone in complete knowledge that you’re doing it, it involves lying as well – It is to knowingly speak against someone I lying about them in a negative manner.
So to slander the Holy Spirit, as in blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, while part of what is being done is to say that Jesus is doing the miracle in the Power of Satan, This is too simplistic of an answer.
Because it wasn’t just that they were giving credit to the devil for the miracles of God which is bad enough.
What makes this sin unforgivable is that they in complete knowledge, knowingly lied about the Holy Spirit, Saying something evil about the Holy Spirit.
You see it’s not about who gets credit for a miracle, it’s about lying in complete knowledge about the Holy Spirit and stating that he is actually not the Holy Spirit, but the evil spirit of Satan.
So again, to commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, you can’t do it accidentally.
It isn’t the same as a thought that comes into your mind.
It is an outside behavior that you do in front of other people with full intent.
What you are fully intending to do is to lie about the Holy Spirit by saying that a miracle that is being done by the Holy Spirit, is actually being done by an evil spirit.
Yet it’s even deeper than this because the Pharisees did this not because they disagreed with Jesus, not because they were angry or envious of Jesus.
They did it Because Jesus was violating one of their rules. He was threatening their power by stating they were wrong.
You see they cared more about their position in the community, than they did about pleasing God. It was all about their ego.
In one of the other Gospels we are told that prior to this, they had openly acknowledge when they stated that “we know that you were of God because no man could do the miracles you do in less he is from God.”
You see they knew – they completely understood that Jesus was doing miracles by the Holy Spirit of God.
So in this knowledge That what they were doing was a complete lie, they slandered or lied against the Holy Spirit to protect themselves and their reputations.
You see the reason this is unforgivable is the person that does it does it in complete knowledge and doesn’t care – they don’t care what God thinks about this sin – it is more important what people think of them, than what God thinks of them.
You see it is not an easy sin to do.
For one thing you have to know that the person is doing a miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit – and how do you know that- you don’t.
Jesus is the only man that was sinless, He is the only one that you could knowingly lie about – with complete certainty with that what he was doing was of the Holy Spirit.
There are fake healers today that say that they do things in the power of the Holy Spirit, that aren’t even Christians – therefore acres.
Jesus called them wolves in sheep’s clothing – and if you said that they were doing a miracle in the power of the devil you might be correct.
So you wouldn’t be committing blasphemy the Holy Spirit – you would be pointing out a faker.
So number one you have to understand that it is not an easy thing to do. It’s not something you can accidentally do.
Now referring to your question concerning sins within your thought life.
You remember Jesus talked about if a man looked upon a woman With Lust in his heart he was committing adultery.
We know that the word lust, Means desire.
So here we see Jesus talking about sins in our thought life.
These are sins that we entertain in our thinking – it’s not the thought that comes and we banish it. It is the thought that comes and we think about it, we dwell upon it – this is a sin when we dwell upon sinful thoughts, things which we know we shouldn’t think about.
Yet as all sins, except for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, these sins are forgivable.
The Bible tells us to take Thought captive, meaning that when we start to get an evil thought stop yourself from thinking about – if you do this you’re not sinning.
It’s only when you keep thinking about it in turning it over and over in your mind, wherein sexual lust, or sexual desire get stronger – this is where it becomes a sin.

In addressing your last comment let me state that you are dealing with two separate issues here, one is intrusive thoughts that you are worried are blasphemy against the Holy Spirit; and that of losing your faith because of these thoughts.
Most of us if not all of us have intrusive thoughts which we find uncomfortable or ridiculous because we don’t really believe the thought that comes into our head – this is why it’s called intrusive.
As a licensed counselor I deal with this subject quite a bit.
Some individuals seek medical treatment by way of psychoactive drugs, others seek help by way of cognitive therapy or some other form of talk therapy with a psychologist or in my case a licensed counselor.
Biblically speaking the approach is somewhat the same as within certain other types of counseling which is, 1) the understanding that these are intrusive thoughts that seem to come from outside your normal thinking process – no were not talking about possession or even Satan as the source – many people believe that it is simply do to a malfunction in chemicals in the brain which produce these thoughts which are not part of the belief system of the person.
2) is the aspect of attempting to control them by refusing to think about it. There are some things that you can do. Determine that when you get these thoughts that you will immediately think about something else, I would suggest that you turn to the Bible and read a passage, and in the process attempt to memorize it which will preoccupy your brain. This way your following what the Bible says to do. This is hard work it’s not easy. And if you’re lazy you will not gain anything from this or anything else that demands hard work.
The world around us seems to think that hard work shouldn’t be necessary, yet the reality of life is that hard work is necessary for success.
If I lose my leg it is hard work to walk around with crutches, 10 navigate the world with escalators, stairs, and many others obstacles.
If I get a prosthesis, and artificial leg, it becomes a little easier but I still have to work hard to learn how to use it correctly – I have to practice certain techniques – if I say this is too hard and I won’t do it then I have to go back to that which is harder to do in the long run, crutches.
And if I refuse to use crutches then the only thing left is a wheelchair, and if I refuse to work hard with the wheelchair and push it, then I’m at the disposal of those who would push the wheelchair for me, and if they get tired of me not being willing to do the hard work then all I do is sit in my wheelchair and I never move.
You see just because we have handicaps in this world it is not an excuse to be lazy.
Handicaps make it where we have to work harder than other individuals who don’t have handicaps.
I know this sounds harsh but you’re talking to somebody that has spent four years on crutches and learn to function like everyone else, and I didn’t waste time feeling sorry for myself, I praised God for the idea that someday I wouldn’t have to be on crutches.
These intruding thoughts are your handicap – no one can do this for you, but you.
You have to refused to think about these intrusive thoughts, and the only way I know to do that – to stop a negative thought is to interject a positive thought.
You have to trade one thing for the other to get rid of the first thing.
And the Bible is an excellent tool because you benefit spiritually as well as dealing with your physical problem.
You memorize Scriptures which the fire situation and you hold onto them and trust God rather than your situation – this is called faith.
Before I said that faith is a separate issue than what you’re dealing with.
You need to read my articles on faith because you misunderstand what faith is, at least to a certain point.
Faith is a foundation of every relationship a human being will ever have – it is the most important ingredient in every relationship you will ever have – if you can’t trust people how can your life be comfortable and secure, it can’t.
Faith is trusting God in the same manner.
Romans 10:17 states: “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”
What this means is that faith comes from reading God’s word, but more than this it is studying God’s word.
You see when we see prophecies in the Old Testament that we know according to secular history were written of thousand years before the New Testament, and that prophecy comes about in the New Testament, we are amazed because that means a human being did not merely write this book. God is the only one that knows what happens before it happens.
There are a lot of good secular books out there that will help you, that will lead you.
Josh McDowell has “Evidence That Demands a Verdict,” part one into.
Or more than a Carpenter. Lee Strobel is another good writer. They explain prophecies in the Old Testament that are fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
You see I would suggest that you fill your mind with things that oppose these intrusive thoughts which builds faith.
Because God is in control of your life rather it feels like it or not, and he uses problems to get us to do what he wants us to do – not to be mean, but to motivate change.
Because Andrew what you’re doing does not work and it is not what he wants from you.
It’s hard because your 12 years old, but that just means you have to work that much harder.
The only thing I can suggest to you is to study God’s word, which it is obvious you have not till now.
Studying is not the same as reading. We read just to get it done. We study to understand.
These two authors are excellent and can help you to grow in your faith as well as lead you to Scriptures that you can hold onto, that you can memorize when these intrusive thoughts come, and think upon God’s word when these out word thoughts that seem like their blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Remember I’ve to find blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and you have not done it, but you still feel guilt because you get these intense thoughts which are against God.
Well do something about it. If you can’t find these books are have no money for them, I will send the books to you. I don’t send out money, but if you need a book to help you let me know.
But you have to be willing to spend the time to read it and study God’s word – if you are lazy and no you won’t do it please don’t waste my time or resources – because I could use them with people that are willing to work hard.
You see how much hard work I do in responding to your letters – page after page I send to you taking up hours of my time – working hard to help someone I don’t even know.
Why would I do this?
I do this to please my Father – I do this because I’ve learned to work hard, at least at certain issues in order to please God.
If you’re not willing to work hard that I would suggest that you not waste my time or yours – maybe just become a drunk, just take drugs; and wait to die.
But I know there is something better to you than this.
You see there was a time in my life where I did that very thing – life was too hard and I medicated to try to live it out without being willing to work at, and even now this very moment I know I still must work hard at not being a person that needs to medicate in order to live their own life.
What seems like a terrible situation that you’re in, can be the motivation for you to start to change your behaviors and study God’s word.
That’s all I did and now I have been blessed with so much insight because of this, because of this willingness to work hard – and believe me I fail all the time.
But when you fail you get up and start again.
The reason why is because God is trustworthy and he will help you Andrew.
And no I’m not saying don’t contact me, I will be here.
Just be willing to hear hard words to deal with hard situations, so that you might to work hard at life.

when i was in high school, i got really angry at God one day and told Him, f*** You God! You hate me, Youre evil, Youre the devil!” then i cried n immediately regretted what i said and repented. im worried i may have said this to the Holy Spirit as i cant remember which Person of the Trinity i said this to. i said it out of Anger n thought God hated me at that time, but i immediately repented afterwards. im scared i did what the pharisees did in speaking against the Holy Spirit and calling Him evil.

Short answer, no you did not commit blasphemy the Holy Spirit in the way that Jesus spoke about when the Pharisees, who knew that Jesus was doing a miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit, became jealous because he did a miracle on the Sabbath which defied their rules.
This miracle of Jesus saving an individual on the Sabbath made them look bad because they lived by the rules and made everybody live by the rules.
And if the people stop believing in the Pharisees it would affect their livelihood they could lose money because of losing credibility because of Jesus.
The problem is is that they intentionally lied about Jesus doing a miracle in the power of the Holy Spirit which they lied and said he did it in the power of Satan.
You see blasphemy means to intentionally lie about God in order to make yourself look good or for financial gain.
It is not something that you can accidentally do, it is slander that must be done on purpose with no regret or intention of asking forgiveness because they completely understood what they were doing, they were lying about the power that Jesus exercised, where it was from. If you remember before this they called him master and said that he could not do these miracles less God was with him, which exhibited that they knew where his power came from.
Long answer, How concerned are you about this incident.
The reason I ask, if you are really concerned that means that you are motivated to find an answer.
And what you need to do is read this article again, and read the comments below by other people at who were in similar Situations and had the same question and read the responses that I’ve given to them.
You see the very fact that you were concerned about this emotional outburst, displays that you really did not mean this, it was a stupid thing to say, but you didn’t mean it, because if you did you would not be concerned right now about it or then. When Jesus died for our sins he died for all of our sins.
This particular type of sin could only be done when Jesus walked the earth as I’ve stated before because he was completely sinless and if you knew that he did miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit because he was sinless, and you were so concerned about your own credibility or income that you deliberately lied about the Holy Spirit doing the work in him, this is the only way to be guilty of this particular sin. Which is why it’s not mentioned in other places of the New Testament.
There are remarks about sinning unto death, and there are remarks about a unforgivable sin, but there is never a direct connection made to this event in those passages. Do you think our God would be so uncaring that he wouldn’t let us know with such a dangerous situation. The only sin I know of that is and forgivable is rejecting Jesus Christ and his shed blood for us on the cross.
The only other unforgivable sin is committed during the tribulation with those that take the sign of the beast, this is another situation where the people understand completely what they’re doing. It is not easy to do things like this, and a loving father would make sure that we understand how dangerous it is.
Anyway, please research this further rather than me just restating the same thing over and over again, I am here if you need me.

hi brent, thank u so much for replying. i read through your article and all of the comments yesterday night, but i still feel like what i said to God is so different from what the other commenters said. i actually told God Himself that He was evil and the devil. and i didnt do this out of ignorance because i knew He is God and i knew and believed in Jesus Christ before and while saying these words, neither did i just have this as a fleeting thought, but i actually verbally made such a slanderous statement to and about God. ive never met any other person who ever so defiantly accused or said of God such evil untrue and blasphemous things. im scared He will never forgive me because of my careless words, since He proceeded to tell them that men will have to give account for every careless word they said, for by ur words you will be acquitted/condemned. the pharisees knew He was of God yet proceeded to say He had an evil spirit. likewise, i knew He was God and holy and good yet i proceeded to say He was evil and the devil. ive bern so tormented by this, its been 3 whole months already and i cry myself to sleep sometimes with no hope, for im scared that even God will not love, forgive and accept me. without Him, life is meaningless. whenever i read verses about Gods love for us and forgiveness etc, i keep thinking that He is only referring to those who never blasphemed the HS. for He said all sins n blasphemies will be forgiven but the blasphemy against the HS will never be forgiven. so when i read 1 john 1:7-9, i keep thinking He will forgive all sins, but not blasphemy against the HS. u ask how concerned i am about this and my answer is so concerned that its affecting every part of my life. i can barely think of anything else and i feel so left out at church and Bible study because i feel like they all are loved and forgiven by God but not me because i already blew my chance.

Unfortunately I’m getting ready to leave right now. What you need to understand is that the word that is used in the Greek for blasphemy is not the same as the English word for blasphemy.
Any of us could get mad at God at any moment, yet it is forgivable.
Do you remember what Peter did, using cursing he denied the Lord in a very vile way. Did he mean it when he said it, he was scared and said it out of fear, but he did mean it at that very second.
Do you believe that the Holy Spirit is truly of the devil, do you still believe that? If you do then you’re guilty of it if you know that it is a lie and you still choose to do it. You see the Pharisees display a mindset that they did not change their mind because they knew exactly what they were doing and were more afraid about losing credit with men, then with God. You need to remember that the English is not the same as the original Greek, this sand cannot be done today.
Because it is the sin that can only be done to Jesus Christ. You see if some man said he was a prophet and that he spoke for God but then said things that I disagreed with, and I said that he was doing it in the power of the devil, even if he was doing it for God I could not be guilty of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
The reason why, is that he is a mere man and he could be wrong he could be sending. The reason this was so wrong with Jesus is that he was perfect, he never send, the Pharisees acknowledged this, and still lied against him, slandering him and the Holy Spirit knowing it was a lie. You see just saying the words is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, otherwise Peter was slandering Jesus and could not be forgiven.
It is the context where this is said to other people in order to discredit the work of God as seen in the power of the Holy Spirit, where it is intentional. And you know that the person that is doing the miracle, is definitely doing it in the power of God. If there is a chance that the person is wrong then you cannot commit this sand by calling him out and saying whose power he’s working in. This can only be done to Jesus Christ because he was perfect and they knew that he was perfect and therefore was doing it in the power of God, and they intentionally lied to the people standing around in order to save face. You must know that it’s not the words that are said is the intent. Intent is everything in God’s word, though it does not change sin from being sin.
In our justice system, which is made based upon the Old Testament Levitical system. If you ran over someone accidentally, it was manslaughter and you could not be executed, because you did not intend to murder someone pre-meditatively. However, if you intended to run him over on purpose then you could be executed. God he looks at your heart Nicole. Do you want to go to hell for eternity, or be with him in heaven. God is not an unjust father that would allow you to say a few words in Dan yourself to hell. That’s why I said the other places in the New Testament which refer to as sin that is not forgiven is not referring to this, the Greek words are different. It is referring to denying Jesus Christ.
The only way that you cannot be saved right now is if you refused to submit to God and refused to have Jesus as your Savior, that he paid for all of your sins. That you do not need him. You are not saying or doing this. Do not allow your lack of understanding concerning the Greek language or the Greek grammar, or the Hebrew customs of 2000 years ago to rob you of your salvation. You are saved by grace, God’s unmerited favor.
But to access that unmerited favor, that grace you must believe that Jesus paid for your sins and that you are saved. You see the devil wants you to think that you committed blasphemy so that you will not believe that Christ died for your sins. God is not so haphazard with his children that he would make it so easy for us to damn ourselves to eternity.
As I said before, the only time that we can do something like this is during the tribulation, where incomplete knowledge people that have already forsaken God and are stuck on the earth because they were not rapture and as believers, are given a choice to either follow the devil and his henchmen the Antichrist and false prophet, or have their heads cut off declaring that they believe in Jesus. That when they saw everyone else that was a Christian raptured, that they now became believers.
God is not like our earthly fathers that lays out traps whereby mere words we can send ourselves to hell. It’s not the mere words of accepting Jesus that saves us, it is a lifestyle of faith where we trust him for everything in our life, that he has made a way for us based upon his grace. It is a free gift that we cannot earn any any way shape or form. We don’t earn it by good things that we do, going to church, or not saying something that we think is blasphemous. We are saved because we believe that God provided a substitute that would pay our price for all of our sins, every one of them. You see what Peter did was slander, but it was not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, that was not his intention, and he came back to Christ.
Actually he was never lost but his spirit was down because as full of pride as he was before, bragging about how he would defend Christ, and Christ pointed out that he would deny him three times using cursing slandering Jesus. Peter was downtrodden after this, during the 40 days that Jesus was with them until Jesus confronted him, and reinstated his ministry by telling him to feed the sheep and lead the believers. He never lost his salvation or faith in God, he just acted like a coward and said so with words. Sister you have not done the unforgivable sin. 40 years of teaching God’s word this is the biggest thing I have to deal with the people.
Read my article again and look up any articles doing a search on my website using the word blasphemy. Read and understand that this particular sin can only be done to Jesus about the Holy Spirit. I must go. I am here for you.

And the fact that you care about Jesus Christ proves you are a sheep and not a goat. She are always depicted by Christ as examples of believers, goats are always depicted as unbelievers. You see even in the examples that Jesus uses you can’t change from one to the other, either you are a sheep or a goat. In chronological time there may be a point where you accept the Lord, but read Ephesians where it talks about being chosen before the foundations of the earth, where it talks about being sealed with the Holy Spirit, where it talks about being adopted into God’s family. None of these conditions can be undone.
Read my articles on eternal security. Understand that even when Jesus use the term that we are to be born again, it is an object lesson. Let me ask you this. What does a child have to do with its own birth – nothing whatsoever. Two people come together and produce the child. You see the point is it is God that chose you before the foundations of the earth to be his child. And it is your responsibility not to be hung up on this situation with the devil can bog you down to where you cannot do what God wants you to do because you’re so worried about your own salvation. It’s paid for by Jesus. You never see the Pharisees repent of this sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because they did it on purpose and they were going to change their minds. Oops i forgot to add something to my post above, heres the edited version:
Any part of the Bible is not to be read alone, without taking in the rest of Scripture/the Gospel as well as looking at the context, time, and people(who is addressed etc) of the passage. For example, all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven men. (Here, if taken literally without consideration for the rest of Scripture, one would make the mistake in thinking that all sins are forgiven men regardless if one repented or not. Jesus does not mention that forgiveness is only through repentence and faith in Him but after reading all of the Gospel, we know that this is implied), but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven(again, this can be taken out of context and misinterpreted if read without considering the rest of Scripture/the Gospel, so it can be understood after reading this verse in conjunction with all of Gods Word, that the only way one could NOT be forgiven is if one does not repent and believe in Jesus Christ, so this blasphemy cant be forgiven because something about it would keep one from repentance, confession and believing in Christ which is the only way one can be forgiven). Thus if one repents/confesses their sin and puts their faith in Christ, he/she could not have committed the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit which Jesus refers to in those passages. Because any sin that is confessed will be forgiven (1 john 1:7-9) “that if we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”, and faith in Christ leads to salvation not condemnation (john 3:16, romans 8:1).

I think you make an excellent point, I agree with you. Anyone that could have committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit by the nature of their violation would never asked for repentance because they meant it.
The point is, as you have made, is that all sins are forgivable to anyone who comes to Jesus in repentance, understanding that the word repentance doesn’t mean just to change your mind, but to change your mind to the extent it changes your behavior. Repentance is like a person is going their way in life walking west, and Jesus says follow me but he’s walking east. To repent you must change your mind 180%. The way that we change your mind is that we stop trying to be God in our own life, and let Jesus be our God.
So if you repent, you could not have committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit in the first place. There is never an instance in the Bible of anyone who is committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and repented or change their mind. To do this most devastating of sin it is something that is done with complete knowledge of what they are doing, meaning they know that they refuse to follow Jesus and to accept him as Lord.
Please read the articles I’ve written on eternal security, especially the one that is entitled; “Eternal Security – it is about God”, I believe that’s the correct title.
It is very long.
But it is long because there are many issues to be covered.
I do not write about a subject in a superficial manner, that is not what the Holy Spirit leads me to do.
I write about complex issues because life is complex, and when it comes to Christianity there is nothing more important than getting it right because were talking about eternity.
The fact that you are so upset at the thought of having committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit indicates to me that you have not done it.
Because no one that’s ever committed it ever change their minds or felt guilty are worried.
It is a lifelong decision, not made because of the emotions of the moment.
I have known Christians that have lost loved ones and in the anger and emotions of the moment cursed God – this is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
This is cursing God, and can be forgiven if we repent.
Just like Peter, who repented at cursing about Jesus, sin can be forgiven with repentance.
But as you pointed out, those who commit this particular sin had done so with her eyes wide open and not because of emotional temporary response, but because of a commitment to believing the opposite of what Jesus is teaching.
They demand to be their own God just like the Pharisees did by making up rules that they alone could follow understanding that Jesus was the anointed of God because they said they recognized that, when they said that no man does the miracles you do in less he comes from God.
The Greek behind this English means that they knew he was the Messiah, a representative of God who was doing good and telling the truth which they disputed when it started to hurt their pocketbook or the credibility.
When Jesus healed on the Sabbath this affected them and they chose to go their way in opposition to salvation that Jesus offered.
You have not done this.
Do not allow the devil to keep handicapping you over this issue.
The devil and his minions are bugging you about this to stop you from doing the work that God wants you to do in your life.
You are to tell people about Jesus your Lord and Savior, and how he saved you.
How could you do this if you do not think your saved?
That’s why want you to read the articles on eternal security.
Because once you are saved you cannot be unsaved.
Sheep do not become goats, goats never become sheep.
That’s why want you to read the book of Ephesians which talks about God specifically choosing you, which is what the Greek says, before the foundations of the universe.
He knew that you would be upset over the thought of committing the sin, and brought you and I together so I could convince you as I have hundreds before you, that you have not committed this sin are you would not regret it and therefore repent.
You have a ministry to do, stop allowing the devil to bug you over this.
If you do not believe what the word of God says, that according to first John 1:8 that if you confess your sins, he will forgive your sins you can’t be saved.
You see the Devils tried to trick you into not believing and not having faith in God’s word.
Do not be deceived as Jesus said, good fruit comes from a good tree, and bad fruit comes from a bad tree.
The fact that you feel so much pain at the thought of having done this grievous of sins indicates that your fruit is good.
Member what Paul says in the book of Romans, “no man seeks God,” no one is good.
The fact that you are seeking God displays said it is the Holy Spirit inside of you causing you to seek God, as the book of Ephesians says when it says you are sealed with the Holy Spirit.
The word in the Greek for sealed is taken from the words Signet which is the King’s rain that was used when ever he would make a law or order, they will put wax at the end of it, and he would seal it with the mark of his ring.
You remember the book of Esther. Remember whenever Esther finally told the king that she was a Jew and going to be killed his response in love to her, the law he made.
In the first chapter of Esther it talks about the law of the Medo- Persians, which is a law that is been in effect since time immemorial, the law is that even the king cannot overturn his own rule.
Because the power of a king is not in the man, but in the title King.
If a king can overturn his law than his law is not permanent, it could be temporary.
In the power of a king was so great that every society from the tower of Babel through the time of Jesus have followed this law about Kings, they cannot reverse their own laws.
This is what the word sealed means in the book of Ephesians – you are sealed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in you and drives you to seek God.
So, do not allow yourself to be sidetracked any longer with this issue.
Believe what God has said in his word, that you are forgiven because you seek it, and because he has promised to do it.
Also in the book of Ephesians it says that we are adopted into God’s family.
Do you know that within Hebrew, Roman, and Greek societies; that once a child is adopted, it can never ever be on adopted – adoption was a permanent act.
The book of Ephesians talks about believers being sealed and adopted, so read it, believe it, do it, and walk on to serve your God.
You cannot share with others what you do not have, but you have the spirit of God in you that drives you, share that with others, increase the amount of believers in the world.
One last thought. Concerning the metaphor that Jesus uses about us being sheep, we who are his children
Do shepherds reproduce sheep, no. Sheep reproduce sheep.
That’s what you when I called to do, to witness for Jesus Christ, and that’s what you need to do now and you must stop worrying about this sin that you did not commit.

thank u again for ur detailed answer. i just wanted to ask u something, i have trouble believing that im chosen. everytime i read the book of Ephesiam i keep thinking He isnt talking about me but about the Elect, His chosen children. if i desire to know and love God and to be His child, does that mean for sure that i AM His child/sheep/chosen elect? i want to know that the verses about His love for us, his never forsaking us, His salavtion for us, His choosing us is also referring to me. i keep battling thr fear that He isnt talking to me but to His Elect.

Here are two short cutouts concerning Ephesians the first chapter, I have run out of time so rather than mixing them I’m letting you read them separately. At the end of the second article there is a link to a much larger article which has a lot of information you really need to read.
First Article
Ephesians 1:4-6, says:
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
Two issues arise concerning this passage, that of being chosen “before the foundation of the world” (one last issue concerning this phrase), and “Adoption” by God.
There are those that state that this passage refers to Christians being adopted as believers in general, or a person being adopted into the group of saved individuals.
Yet this is an impossibility due to the words such as “us”, which could refer to individuals within a group.
If Paul were referring to a group you would have to use a different word even in referring to individuals within that group.
And whereas Paul’s introduction is to “the saints that are at Ephesus,” he goes on to state, “Grace be to you”, indicating a personalization of the application.
This letter was read to the church as a whole, but its application was to the individual.
Paul did not expect the group to only obey in general, alleviating the responsibility of the individual to their individual responsibilities.
The application was specific, therefore being “chosen before the foundation of the world” was specific, and having being “predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Christ Jesus to himself” is specific as well.
And if a general application is to be implied concerning being “chosen” then there is no specific understanding of this text, and how to apply it to one’s life individually.
You cannot depersonalize this text, without depersonalizing the application as well.
A specific time is spoken about, “before the foundations of the world”, not general.
The application is specific to the individual; otherwise there would be no responsibility to fulfill any mandates, or to apply any aspects personally.
To state that God chose Christians, a group of people called by the name of Christ to be saved before the foundation of the world, does violence to the text, and neuters any meaning of its application.
To generalize these statements is to contradict the personal application that Paul alludes to.
And concerning the word “adoption,” there is no general understanding of applying it to a group of people.
Adoption was always singular, dealing with one person, it was personal, and it was immediate in its relevance.
The idea of adoption was that of a youth reaching a point of identification and recognition as the heir of the family.
Adoption was a legally binding procedure and could not be undone.
Once you are adopted into a family, your rights and privileges are the same as any blood family member who would hold the same standing.
For God to say that He adopts us, by use of this word, reveals a personal relationship that is permanent and binding, in which He cannot even undo himself.
This is what’s understood by this word for adoption which Paul utilized.
Ephesians 1:13, says:
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”
The word for “sealed” here comes from the word for the signet (usually on a ring) of a King used to seal documents; and once sealed, not even the King himself could unseal it.
The point is once we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, we cannot be unsealed, not even by God the Father.
References to this can be seen in Esther 8:8, where the King could not unseal the order to have the Jews killed, who was Esther, a Jew; and in Daniel 6:15, where the King could not have Daniel avoid the lions’ den, when the King loved Daniel.
Chronological Time – Linear Assumption
We all live under a linear assumption, where time progresses from the past to the present, unto the future.
However, it is not at the time of a Believer’s altar call that is the fulcrum of their Spiritual life.
Within our own dimensionality we have a hard time understanding how God could predestine a person before the foundation of the earth to be His child.
Election
Regarding the issue of Election, the Biblical teaching that individuals were chosen before the foundations of the earth (please see: *Rev. 17:8; 2 Thess. 2:13-14; John 15:16; Rom. 3:10-11; Luke 19:10; John 6:37)
For those that would argue that this is a reference to the calling of “all” those that were “in” Christ as a group, rather than an individual, the grammar disputes this interpretation .
And for those that would say this is a reference to the Jews and Gentiles being called concerning the religious beginning of the Hebrew, again the words “before,” “beginning,” and “foundation;” are all references to prior to the creation of the world, therefore this cannot be a reference to a group calling of a man to Judaism or Christianity which occurred much later.
These verses* hold no value whatsoever if they are not speaking about the individual who is written in the “book of life,” as stated in Revelation 17:8; or the personal pronoun “you,” as used in 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14; or in Jesus words, “I have chosen you.”

If He was not speaking to the individual for which the pronoun demands; or Paul’s proclamation that “there is none that seeketh after God” as found in Romans 3:11; or Jesus words that He came to “seek” out His followers as found in Luke 19:10.
Or Jesus’ words that the Father is the one that “giveth” individual believers to Jesus as found in John 6:37.
.
None of these verses hold any significance for the individual, if salvation is obtained through the group.
Second Article
Ephesians 1:4-6, states:
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
I have heard many of those that attempt to discount eternal security addresses Scripture with contortions that sound reasonable based on humanism.
(One of the tenants of Humanism is that it teaches that good things should happen to good people, and bad things should happen to bad people. And that you should get what you deserve. One of the strongest arguments that these individuals have is that it is unjust that a carnal believer is treated the same as a committed believer by receiving salvation, ignorant of the fact that we all get into heaven based upon the same payment of Jesus blood. Though their will be many that are ashamed and receive no reward because they sowed to the flesh, wherein those that live committed lives will reap many rewards in heaven based upon their faithfulness – do we forget about the parable of the talents concerning rewards? ~ Matthew 25:14)
The Complexity of Koine Greek Language and Grammar
You might think that I often utilize what appears (Appearance is not the same as fact, many things appear to be one way, yet are not) to be contortions in addressing the grammar of the Greek because of its sophistication – it is complicated and must be explained because it is very different than the English.
Yet, what appears to be contortions of explaining the grammar are simply attempting to make that which is complicated understandable to those who do not know the subject matter. And when it comes to Greek grammar, we whose natural language is English have a hard time.
Regarding Ephesians 1:4-6, which claims that believers are actually chosen of God before the foundations of the earth:
1) I have heard people say that “us” is not referring to particular individuals – “a person,” though the grammar does not allow for that. The writer was referring to those he was writing, as well as himself, which is what the Greek mandates.
2) Some have tried to say that the word “chosen” simply means to give an opportunity, as opposed to those that are picked individually, which again is what this word means. It could only mean individuals as again seen by the word “us” when combined with the word “chosen.”
3) Some have attempted to say that God has chosen Christians to be saved as a group, which is ridiculous and an insult upon God understanding that Christians who are saved are axiomatically saved, not because they’re Christians, but because of God’s choosing. How many Christians sin in churches that really aren’t saved and will go to hell, these are the ones that those that oppose eternal security point out as examples of the error of eternal security.
4) The most widely accepted response to this passage interprets that the subject matter concerns that those who have accepted Christ were chosen to be “holy and without blame“ and has to do with the behavior of behaviors, as opposed to salvation.
Yet, again the grammar which addresses “hath chosen us in him” is the foundational subject of this passage, building on that, stating that this was done “before the foundation of the world,” and that within this choosing we are to be holy and without blame “before him.” Let me ask you this question, who is before Him – God the Father, who stands to be the intercessor between man and God as stated in the Hebrews 7:25-26, which states:
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens“
It is Jesus that stands holy and without blame before God as our intercessor. This passage is not referring to the behavior of men but the standing of the believer before God in the righteousness which Jesus alone provided to pay for the sins of the chosen.
None of us can be holy and without blame before him based upon our behaviors. We are accepted as holy and without blame because of the blood of Jesus, not because of anything that we do. To attempt to say that we can be holy and without blame in our behavior, and that God has chosen us to do something which is impossible for us to do, is ridiculous, we are all sinners and fall short (“If we say that we have [Which is in the perfect tense – Which means it is a continuous action, that never stops]no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” ~ 1 John 1:8).
The righteousness that is spoken of in these terms is the righteousness of Jesus. It is the Breastplate of Righteousness as spoken of in Ephesians 6:17 refers to Jesus righteousness not our own, as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21 (“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”). If you stand in your own righteousness you are a fool and are condemned to hell.
The Question gets down to, who is Really Saved and Why
One thing we must pay attention to is why has God has chosen certain individuals to be saved, what should we focus on.
“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (1 Peter 1:6)
Many believe that we were created simply for fellowship with God, which is only partially true, we were created to glorify God as stated in Isaiah 43:7, which states:
“Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Hi Brent,
I know this is an older post but I have a question…
There have been some things happening in my church lately that are bring attributed to the Holy Spirit but I have my doubts.
Shaking and uncontrolled laughter and a few other things…I thought that Holy Spirit being a gentleman and also one of the fruits of the Spirit being self-control wouldn’t make a spectacle of a believer or cause them to act out of control. I have spoken of this with a close friend but I’m scared to approach leadership as they feel strongly that this is the work of Holy Spirit and I don’t want to speak against Him or look like I’m going against the leadership either.
Are you able to shed any light on this and by my speaking to my friend and saying I don’t think this is from God, have I blasphemed the Holy Spirit? I outright told her that I think the devil is at work and not Holy Spirit.

Thank you for contacting me concerning this, this is an area that I know quite a bit about having grown up in a Pentecostal church, and also served my first full-time pastorate an assistant pastor and minister of youth in a Pentecostal church as well.
Unfortunately, on limited on time, whereas normally I would give you an overwhelming number of scriptures with their references, I don’t have time to quite do that but any words that you find in bold will be a reference to a Scripture that you can look up if you’re not already aware of it, which I think you may well be.
I definitely believe in the outpouring of the Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit I do not believe that the church can function the way that it was ordained to do.
However, I find that I have left and do not affiliate with much of what is happening in Pentecostal churches as I do not believe that they are the works of the Holy Spirit, but are manifestations of emotionalism of individuals.
You are completely right, the Holy Spirit is a gentleman and never displays itself as overtaking and taking complete control of the believer, this is what demon possession is about.
Christians cannot be possessed by Satan because God is there deity. Those that use séance, Ouija boards, tarot cards, are asking to receive the demons into their life the same way that a believer ask God to come in their life. So a believer cannot be possessed. But one of the major differences between a believer having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, as compared to the follower of Satan who is possessed by a demon, is the control factor.
The demon possesses and controls them to do Satan’s will, a believer is not possessed by the Holy Spirit, they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
So first off the Holy Spirit does not make you do anything, especially when it comes to things that are recorded in the Bible such as, shaking (first made popular in the 1800s by those that are referred to as “Shakers”, please look this up on Google. This was considered the first outpouring of Pentecostalism by some. If this is the true birthplace of Pentecostalism then it makes us illegitimate as a denomination of Jesus Christ, because this movement is not what I feel is a genuine movement along with snake handling and any other misuse of the Scripture).
Corinthians 14:32 states:
“And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.”
In the Greek grammar this emphatically states that the profit is in control of his Spirit, which is not the case whenever people are forced to howl, bark, shake, run, or even be slain in the spirit at as it is inappropriately called.
The grammar of this verse is such that when it refers to the word “subject,” which is the Greek word which talks about the action, the verb of this passage it is in the “passive voice”, meaning that the prophet has control of himself, not the spirit.
It is in an “indicative mood,” meaning that the statement is a fact and not subject to any other interpretation. And finally this verb is in the “present tense,” meaning that it is current and never ever ends.
The grammar cannot be reinterpreted any other way, the profit is subject to the Holy Spirit’s control of his body and who he is.
This is because God is not a tyrant to take control of us, he purchased us for freedom as stated in Galatians: five, which states:
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
Some would say that this subject matter deals with legalism, yet freedom and the idea of freedom is foundational to Christianity. Adam was made free to make a choice, salvation is about the freedom to make a choice, doing God’s will is about the freedom to make a choice.
God never wants robots, even when he made the Angels he gave them a free will.
I ended up looking up a few of the Scriptures, so I don’t have much more time but let me finish by saying this.
Good people that are Christians can be deceived – SEE FOOTNOTE
Look up the word deceived in a concordance to see how many times Jesus used it in the Gospels, and recognize he was talking to his believers not the unbelievers.
Jesus constantly demanded that his followers follow closely to his words or the Torah as to use discernment to not be deceived because deception is very possible with Christians.
Here’s a good example.
We are told that we are to “walk by faith and not by sight.”
Sight is one of our senses. A sense is how we interact with our outward environment, we feel in order to manipulate and touch things, yet the nerves in our fingers tell us when something is painful so we can pull our hand back and not have the hand destroyed.
Site is so that when we see a bear running out as, we can get out of there.
Smell of smoke can tell us our house is on fire.
Our senses are how we communicate and interact with our outer world, yet also within this category is our emotions.
You need to read my article on the biblical word for heart, because many people believe that the Bible is talking about the emotions when it uses the word heart in both the old and New Testament, it does not.
You need to understand the definition of feelings, because feelings is one of our senses.
When you say something hurtful to me, and my feelings are hurt this tells me that you are hurting me in some way.
Feelings are always responsive to something that happens first.
When I found out that my first granddaughter was born, I felt happy; my feelings reflected something that occurred in this outside environment, which we call life.
Now my point to this is that we are not asked, we are commanded to walk by faith based upon what God’s word says, and specifically told him not to walk by our senses, our feelings.
Now here is the problem.
For many years Pentecostals have been deceived by pastors who did not dig deep enough in the word and regurgitated what other Pentecostals have stated in order to foster the belief that when you feel something with your emotions you’re actually feeling the Holy Spirit.
Do you remember what Jesus told Nicodemus concerning the Holy Spirit, it’s like a wind, you can’t see it with your senses, but you can hear it as it interacts with its environment and moves bushes and leaves, creating friction that we can hear.
We can hear the interaction of the wind as it strikes the environment, but we cannot see it.
Son had misconstrued and said well you can feel the wind, but Jesus is not addressing feeling concerning our flesh, he’s only addressing sight and hearing when he states:
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
you see the actual subject matter is where the wind is coming from, or where the spirit is coming from.
Those that would say that you may not be able to see it but you can feel it the same as the indwelling of the spirit read into this passage what is not stated by Jesus he is only speaking about listening and hearing.
You want to know why.
Do a survey of the Bible concerning our senses and the spiritual application.
You will see that Satan loves to use our eyes in a majority of his temptations, yet God loves to use hearing in a majority of his interaction with man.
The man saw the fruit, faith cometh by hearing, I’ll let you do a study on this it’s very interesting how the devil leans on one set of senses, and God seems to lean on another.
The prophets spoke, thus saith the Lord, we walked not by our sight.
So the point of what I’m saying is that we are not to be led by our emotions are feelings, even though my feelings can react to move the spirit.
Let me give you an example.
I can go to a service and hear the word of God and see that all of those attending are raising their hands praising God and when it is completed I can walk out and say I really felt the spirit moving in that service.
Actually what occurred is that my eyesight and hearing convinced me based on my feelings that the spirit was there, and it probably was.
The problem is that my emotions are not a validation for the presence of the Spirit, my senses are not a validation for the presence of the Spirit.
When someone is over emotional and starts barking for Jesus, crying for Jesus, shaking for Jesus; it is an emotional response not a spiritual one.
None of these behaviors are seen in the Bible, not even slain in the spirit.
And people would say that when the guards went to arrest Jesus in the garden that they were slain in the spirit.
Yet this is a terrible interpretation of the situation. First of all they fell forward, as a spirit knocked them on their knees in a symbol of worship at his presence.
Secondly they did not come to worship they came to arrest and kill the Messiah.
Are you trying to tell me that when believers are worshiping the Messiah that they need to mimic what was done to ride those that came in disbelief to arrest and kill him.
My question is show me an example of worship of this in the Bible, of the very few times of those that fall none of them fit the criteria of being slain in the spirit which is a 19th century concoction.
And for those to say that the spirit of God is working in new ways outside of what the Bible says, you need to run away don’t waste your time arguing because their pride has convinced them to interpret the Bible based upon their own belief system.
Now this is the conclusion of what I have to say.
It is not your job or anyone else’s job to convince anybody of what I have just presented.
I say this because those that believe these things believe them against what the Bible has stated, they had chosen to be deceived as Jesus to warn them not to do.
They have went to great contortions to believe this baloney, inch by inch they have got off the mark to where they can speak correctly about certain doctrines but when it comes to others there so far off base they cannot see how ridiculous their behavior and interpretation is.
We are to base our behaviors upon the word of God, not any new instructions, which is not what the gift of knowledge or wisdom have anything to do with.
The gifts of the spirit validate what the Spirit has had written in his word and never change it, add to it, reinterpret, or do anything against itself.
Therefore I always tell people that go to churches that see this kind of behavior to run, do not walk to the door and find the place that the Holy Spirit wants you to fellowship because this is in it.
They have allowed their emotions to take them so far off track that they will not listen to you, because they’ve had a greater witnessed then you try to correct them and they have refused correction, that witness being first the word of God, and second the Holy Spirit that they have attributed things that are completely ungodly in ridiculous.
They are so deceived that they will not hear you, because they wouldn’t not even hear God.
Yes they may be saved, and yes God can use them in spite of this giant handicap.
But remember this, God used Pharaoh in a mighty way, but did he profit from God’s use of him?
If you feel like confronting them go right ahead, I could be wrong and it could be the spirit that is leading you to this point.
But you need to spend many many hours preparing yourself because they have refused to listen to God’s word, adding to it things that are not in God’s word such as slain in the spirit; and even blatantly do so by saying that shaking, howling, barking, running, or anything else that is not in the Bible is actually a new move the spirit – this is complete deception by adding to God’s word.
Do you remember what the book of Revelation says about adding to God’s word, God also said the same thing concerning the Old Testament regarding taking away and adding wherein there are other curses that belong to this most evil practice.
So it is not your place to correct those that are deceived rather they are believers or false believers, it is your place to be obedient to God’s word.
Member what God’s word said, come out from among them.

These next two verses concern the word of God as seen in the original Greek but hard to comprehend in the English translation.
Jude is stating that the word of God has been completely 100% delivered unto the saints in the form of the written word.
Paul is stating that his teaching declared all that God wanted man to know which is contained in the word of God.
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jud 1:3
“For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.” Act 20:27
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” Deu_4:2
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18-19 KJV:

Hey B.B. thank you for your response. I just have a question. Mark 3:30 states that Jesus gave his statement “because they said ‘he has an evil spirit’”. based upon what I’ve read and studied in this passage, it appears as if the Bible is implying that one must speak such words against the Holy Spirit and not merely say them out loud . Is that correct? Just trying to understand this better.
And what about “whatever blasphemies they may utter”? Is Jesus saying “whatever intentionally slanderous things they may speak about God”? Again please shed light.
